Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2019) Aaserude

Saved this one over from residency and finally opened it a couple days before we move. Holds up really well after 5 years. Chocolate, coffee and barrel.

Saint Lamvinus Aaserude

Kicked ass today at work and decided to celebrate. Reminded us of natural wines. It’s an interesting bridge between French reds and wild ales. Not as tart as other cantillons we’ve tried. Excellent flavor profile, sad it’s gone.

KBS Spicy Chocolate (2023) Aaserude

KBS has a special place in my heart since it was the first BBA stout I ever tried. You can tell this is KBS but with an emphasis on chocolate and the slightest capsaicin kick from pepper. Saving a bottle to pair with our mole recipe. Decent KBS variant.

KBS Blueberry Aaserude

I think a 4 is a fair rating for this but KBS was my favorite beer for a while so that gives it a boost. One of the weaker variants for me. KBS body is thin and the blueberry presents with a tartness that overwhelms the barrel. Good but not great.

Sang Bleu (2022) Aaserude

Sour wild ale flavors at it’s finest. Didn’t get a lot of blueberries but the cantillon base does not disappoint. The main reason she woke up to come today.

Nitro CBS (2019) Aaserude

Left. Date night beers. Shocked to see this on tap so had to snag a pour. Tastes old and loses some of the breakfast stout qualities but makes up for it with a great aged, barrel stout with silky nitro qualities. Amazing.

Chocolate Cherry KBS Aaserude

Solid but was hoping for more cherry. The coffee definitely dominates this one.

Rosé de Gambrinus Aaserude

Where else can you find Cantillon on tap? Didn’t know it could get better than the bottled Cantillon. One of the best lambics we’ve ever tried. Her favorite of the night.

French Toast Bastard (Barrel Aged Series 2022) Aaserude

Packing/moving beer. Surprised this isn’t rated higher but maybe it’s polarizing. Backwoods bastard is one of my favorite available year round beers so I’m biased but this nails the French toast flavor. Wish I could find more. Also rounded out the move.

Wake Up World Wide Stout (2022) Aaserude

Surprised this is so highly reviewed. A little thin for 15% and the breakfast stout component isn’t apparent. I get a decent imperial stout with a somewhat bitter and generic coffee flavor. Decent but not as good as I remember it being.

Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) (2019) Aaserude

Been saving this one for a few years and decided today was a beautiful day to crack it. Holds up well to aging. Rich chocolate with maple and subtle barrel. Accompanied by the sound of Cuyahoga falls and mist.

Belgian Twist Aaserude

I’m surprised this isn’t rated higher. Maybe it’s because there aren’t a lot of Belgian fans trying it. Tastes a little sweeter than I’d expect, which I’m assuming is the agave added. Overall, well above average for a Belgian trippel.

Kriek 100% Lambic Bio Aaserude

Cherry, acidity, minerality and perfect carbonation with a finish like sourdough bread. Very complex and would have to drink this on multiple occasions to pick up on all the complexities. It tastes like a good lover after a steak dinner and bottle of wine
