Very nice juicy and tropical, smooth and hazy. Kinda different than what I expect from Founders, but well done.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge (2020) F
Oh boy. A couple years mellowed this beautifully. Definitely my favorite of the KBS spin offs, and (at the risk of heresy) possibly even better than the original. Leans a bit toward desert beer, but I really dig it.

I don't really like cranberry, and yet this beer works for me. Lots of sweet cherry and a little citrus. Mostly get the bourbon on the finish, giving a cocktail like feel. Pleasantly surprised.

It's a pretty good vanilla porter, but I have to compare it against their standard Porter, which I adore. This has a nice vanilla sweetness, but doesn't compare to the brick solid, roasty original.

Been about 6 years since I've had this one. Lots of maple sweetness, maybe some light fruity notes and piney hops. Maybe a hair on the syrupy side, but still pleasant. Booze is felt, but not too much heat.

Oh my. Can't remember the last time a new Founders IPA impressed me quite this much. It's hefty and hazy, but tropical and smooth. Really like it.

Nice less piney more juicy All Day. Not sure it beats the OG, but it's a solid addition.

Been a while since I had this one. Mostly as I remember, with a tropical punch and maple sweetness. It's a bit rich, but good.

rich and silky. leaves a lovely cinnamon and bourbon finish. chocolate and vanilla notes are mixed in too, but not overwhelming. I'm impressed how balanced it is.

Not used to German styles from Founders, but they do it well here. has that defining Founders "heft" on a nice malty marzen.

Just right level of sour. a little apple sweetness. some wine barrel character. fizzy and pleasant.

I like it. a little sweet and malty, not too heavy on the pumpkin. fairly light. a little zest/spice dry finish.

Fresh from the source. boozy as hell, as I remembered. sweet, but not quite too much. boozy heat lingers. it is something unique, for sure.

light and crisp. floral hops, and a little sour; like a lemon tartness. very pleasant.

very light. a faint grassy flavor. not really noticing much of the barrel.

very nice pilsner. Light with a little zest. Happy to make it to Dogfishead!

Curmudgeon’s Better Half (2018) F
Almost no bite, and just a very rich maple and molasses sweetness. leaves a warm finish. It was pretty sweet when fresh as I recall, but maybe a bit more and smoother now. the alcohol balances the sweetness well.

quite different from the original. dominated by a prickly pear flavor. I just with it had toned down the jammy sweetness a notch.

heavy on the barley. some resin bitterness, with boozy heat on the finish. it's potent, and a little too much for my liking.

I wasn't really expecting much, honestly, but it's a pleasant surprise. Light and session able for sure. the classic Founders punch adds just enough character to make it work.

Definitely get some flavor of Double Trouble, with a splash of Devil Dancer malt. maybe a little rye in there. all balanced pretty nicely, and bold.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge (2020) F
holy cow. smells like a chocolate milkshake. silky smooth, rich chocolate, with a perfect boozy bourbon finish. damn near perfect.

Very smooth. creamy, with chocolate maltiness. I get just a hint of Graham cracker and cinnamon.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2020) F
hits heavy with coffee and bourbon this year. Quite smooth even without much aging. always great.

It's good, and pretty much what I expected. has the classic Founders heft.
