Cantillon through and through. Tart just right, with a wonderfully chewy grape aroma. Very good and very dangerous.

Well, what would you expect? A very good beer. I am not marking it down due to the pub it was served in - you cannot really enjoy a beer in a sports pub. Cantillon however.

Bottled 26 May 2023 so eight months in the bottle. Good. Not overly tart thanks to vanilla, slightly wooden (good here, not good in a NEIPA) with dry red fruit. Solid fun, not full extravaganza.

I am down to my last dozen or so. Three years in the bottle. Quite tart. Flawless fruit.

Tap. Oh well. Floral, of course. But there is no debate: This is very close to perfection.

Cuvée Saint-Gilloise (Champions) (2023)
Bottled seven months ago (15 February 2023). Very composed. Fun.

Very dry, more wine than lambic. Full bodied, with little funk. Hugely elegant. I will saw it off in a few minutes. Bottled 11 February 2022.

Only a few years ago one would have become very excited by this. Solid body, hoppy fruit and malts both present. Slightly thin though.

Draft. Oh well. Everything is there, just not enough of it. Strangely tame.

Draft. This takes some time of getting used to. Very unusual, very interesting. Still young. I have a bottle of this in my secret cellar and look forward to opening it in ten years or so.

Bottled in May 2020. Excellent fruit but quite tart. Quite very tart. The glass is 100 years old this year. It was part of the dowry of my great-grandmother.

SpontanCherry Frederiksdal (2021)
Mikkeller Kriek. I think we can work with this. Very smooth, dark cherry skin, but no horse and no farmyard. Only cherry kriek.

Tart indeed. Fruit is slowly mellowing. 12 bottles left.

HORAL's Oude Geuze Mega Blend (2021)
Christmas dinner. Tomato soup, scottish salmon with potato salad, roast apple. All is well.

I should drink them before they become old, or shouldn't I?

May 2020 bottle directly from the brewery. Massive fruit, as it should be.

May 2020 bottle. From the between lockdowns trip to Brussels last year. It is ageing gracefully. Slightly tart but just so, with excellent fruit. This is not becoming worse.

From the between-lockdowns trip to Brussels last year. Good.

Motueka, El Dorado and Idaho 7. Five weeks old. It smells and it tastes just like a 8 % abv DIPA should smell and taste. A little bit of unwelcome wheat and some even less welcome wood appears. But it works nonetheless.

Cascade, Simcoe and Mosaic. No abv on the can but it is rumoured to be 9 %. For that abv it is not thick enough while it is quite thick, not fruity enough while it is quite fruity.

Bottled on 14th of May. This is how you do it. Young and powerful. More cherry skin than cherry, dark and thick fruit. Will age some but drink most.

Like a turbot, compared to 3fonteinen's cod. Superbly restrained and elegant. Bottled December 2019.

Subtle and elegant. Since 2019, Cantillon ages on Viognier, not Muscat anymore.

Deepest darkest cherries. Intense flavour that lingers for a long time. From the mad dash to Brussels once travel restrictions had been lifted in summer.

After three years in the bottle it is very composed. Sour just so, fruity just so. This is a solid Kriek.

Oude Geuze Boon à l'Ancienne 2017-2018
Flowers and wood. Very easy drinking despite the quite high abv. Sour just so. Good.

Bottled seven months ago. Young and powerful. Velvety fruit. Lots of it.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2019)
It is cold and dark outside, so I am bringing out the stouts. Massive chocolate and bourbon barrel. Slightly dry and dusty on the palate.

Three and a half months since borders were opened and I was able to pick this up in Brussels. As of today, Brussels is no-go zone again. What a miserable day.

On the wheaty side of fruity. Substantial abv. Not dry, not bitter.
