French Toast Bastard

Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Backwoods Bastard gets the 4-star breakfast treatment. Our bourbon barrel-aged Scotch Ale is introduced to maple syrup, cinnamon, and sweet vanilla for a decadent brunch-inspired sipper. Breakfast for dinner, anyone?

Huge maple syrup flavor. Vanilla and cinnamon come through after and then fades into the slight smokiness of the Scottish ale.

Smooth, sweet, and a wee bit boozy. Nice balance of maple, cinnamon, vanilla, and boozy oak over Scotch ale. I do enjoy a good wee heavy. Delicious. Cheers to those who have served and all still serving. 🇺🇲🎖️Happy Veterans Day🎖️🇺🇲

Very tasty and not too much maple, the cinnamon kind of cuts the sweetness. But still sweet

Get fully cinna-sweetened malt beer,.. but then dollop a touch of bourbon whisky brown-sugar & maple-syrup on … really quite pleasant for a big boy beer!

Smells like French toast! Smooth and creamy! Alcohol burn. The taste reminds me a little bit of the southern tier crème brûlée. Very yummy! A little mapley!

I love the base, and this variant is very nicely done. Pure French toast with syrup on the nose, and a beautiful Wee Heavy with maple, vanilla, and a light touch of cinnamon that increases on warming. 2023 version.

Definitely a "sipper" but OMG...serve it at room temp and enjoy a bounty of sweetness and flavor. Impressed with this when I tried it in Founders Grand Rapids, MI tasting room @ Oct '22 and this bottled offering is just as good.

Sharpening chisels, so this is an after-work treat. Served at 65f. WOW! Rich and luscious. Sweet without being cloying. Long vanilla note at the end. Brown sugar sweet malts. A nice lingering bitter to balance. Beautiful brown and clear. REPEAT!!!

Maple syrup dominates but the barrel heat helps balance it out. I think I prefer this over CBS. Maple works really well with a wee heavy.
