Backwoods Bastard (2017)

Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts, a bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark fruit. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.

Maussa 90% tynnyriä... Vahvasti vanilijaa ja raakaa alkoholia sekä häivähdys kaakaota. Hyvää, mutta yksipuolista.

Tonight, into the archives! 😎 2017 Founder's Backwards Bastard (Bottled 10/11/17, 11.2% abv.) WOW! Aged well! Still a TON of smokey oak barrel flavor left, vanilla, burnt caramel, earthy, sweet malty! 9.9/10 😳

Mmm aged barleywine-esque beer. This is drinking peak, tons of leather and prunes. Caramelized and treacle sugars, a nice rye bread thing lurking in the background. Smooth. Nice character. You can taste the hillbilly racist vibes, shout out to founders.

Huge barrel note on front with darker darker fruits. Quickly dries with wood and alcohol. Not sticky. Malt missing in finish. Crisp too, didn’t expect that from style.

Very watery, oaky, malty. Plenty of carb. Didn't hold up well.

Big booze, big nice. Yum. A lighter version actually then some of the heavier hitters, but still beautiful.

I love it, not sure how it’s different from other bourbon barrel-aged stouts I’ve had from Founders but still, this is where they excel. Wonder if they make good NEIPAs... probably not.
