Big Bodied , malty / Smokey barley wine

Flavors are all over the place in a good way. Straddles the dank, hoppy and malty profiles of a barleywine.

Very different from what I'd normally expect from Founders but pretty good yeah

I have a feeling this was a ground-breaking brew when it was first brewed over 10 years ago. I still appreciate it for testing flavor profiles without adjuncts.

Caramel on the nose. Smoothish mouthfeel. Nicely balanced hops and malt. Caramel on the back and finish.

Dark hints, deceiving For a barleywine, pretty decent though!
No checkin location

Very roasty and oaky with quite a bit of hops. It's a little strange, but it's not a bad beer. I'd have it again, but not often.

Good but not "Barleywinish" for me. I'm a huge Barleywine fan and have a gold medal for mine so I know a little about it. Founders is one of my favorite breweries. Maybe the next batch will elevate to the next level.

Smooth, fruit notes right out of the bottle. Would age nicely.

Not as bitterly hopped as Bigfoot, but still not quite in my wheelhouse. More of an English BiL dude.

A dark barley wine that finishes crisp instead of somewhat sweet like most barley wines I enjoy.

Bitter hoppy and not too sweet. Little more flavor as it warms. Not too boozy. Prefer an English barley wine that’s sweeter.

Way out of style with the roasted malts but still delish. A power house. Nice for a rainy chily day in T town.
