To be fair I forgot about this beer for 2 years in my fridge… the aftertaste was not my favorite

Paired with one of my favorite Star Trek episodes, Balance of Terror, aka my gateway into submarine films. This beer is the roughest barley wine I've had. High gravity burnt bitter hops.

3/8/21. Dark cola w/ khaki head. Bitter toffee and coffee grounds. Dry finish.

Hmmmm. I get some licorice, a little overripe plum, and just a touch of soy sauce in the nose. A little wet cardboard and a whole lot of bitterness on the palate. Not a fave (understatement).

Solid beer. Reminds me of a black ipa. Dark and malty; kind of hoppy. A little smoky

Shit, when I had this at the brewery I thought it was terrible. I rated it a 3. I thought maybe there would be something different between draft and a bottle so I bought a 4 pack. Nope, this is actually terrible. How can this be a barely wine?

Usually not a fan of American Style Barleywines. This doesn't taste like an American Barleywine, but I'm still not a fan. Huge malty nose; boozy; roasty, smokey flavors; piney, dry, chalky finish. I like the malty, roasty & smokey parts. Otherwise, no.

Not quite my idea of a barleywine. No nose, kind of an uninspired taste… too bitter. The two from 3Floyds were much better.

smells like booze-soaked trail mix. but way harsh on the palate. jet black. bitter... astringent, even. i recall liking this beer in the past. maybe it needs (significant) time to mellow out and develop some character.

En hidsig sag. Krydret og stærk. Lidt sødme havde ikke gjort mig noget, men jeg er også meget ny i barleywine-gamet.

More hop than most barley wines which was a shock. Expected more toffee in the taste. Good by any standards but probably my least favourite Founders of those I've had
