Cellared one year. Now it really tastes like bourbon

A year old now. Fresh Motor oil color w a tinge of red. More spiced now a year later and more mellow in the whiskey tones. Malty and sweet. A bit over sweet. Some oak, whiskey notes.

Unique take on a marzen. Retains the malty, caramel, traditional taste, but is noticeably thinner with more bite. My favorite Octoberfest to date, even though I wouldn't be able to drink it all day. Also, an interesting choice for an Advent calendar.

Bourbony marzen. Strong and supple. Pleasant but boozy.

Wonderful clarity, extremely smooth. Not overly sweet or malty. Mild barrel. A pretty enjoyable beer but nothing shocking. Unsure that cellaring would prove any benefit except barrel fade.

Not my favorite Founders beer, but my favorite beer drinking situation, evening dog walk. “Hey tree, hold my beer, I gotta pee”.

Lots of barrel. Very sweet. Lovely dahlia bouquet that Pete got from the market to win mother in law brownie points!

Moderate barrel flavors overpower the lighter Oktoberfest base beer. Not bad, but doesn’t need to be barreled.

Second time poured into a glass. Opens the beer up a bit and the aroma is nice. I don’t think I’m as impressed with it as I initially thought. Good but not excellent

I can't believe I am saying this, however, I prefer the original Oktoberfest to this. I think that the barrel notes distract from what a typical Marzen style ale should taste like. But...it is still pretty tasty

A marzen that is aged in a bourbon barrel is an interesting idea, but the bourbon overwhelms the traditional adjuncts. Ok, but maybe not the best style to barrel age.

Bourbon forward and malty and a bit sharp on the onset. Allow it to warm slightly and the flavors become balanced.

Well… its very boozy, however almost all of the flvors that make a marzen a marzen are overwhelmed by the booziness. i dont really taste the bready/ biscuity flavors that Octoberfests give. i was hoping to give this a higher rating but I can’t.

Heard it was pretty boozy, but it must vary from bottle to bottle or batch to batch?? A tad thin on the boozyness on this bottle and definitely misses the taste for a marzen, but probably the barrel aging that did that! Overall….not great, but not bad!
