Olde School (2017)

Barleywine - American

Bold, yet smooth! Fermented with dates and figs, this bone-crusher has a completely unique flavor. At 15% abv, this beer is a great candidate for ageing. Over time, the beer dries out and the pit fruit flavors come forward and the hops recede.

This was the final beer from EBF 2021 and boy did it pack a wallop. Late check-in, I know. Still recovering from that night with this 15% monster. Color is mahogany. Flavor is chocolate, figs, nuts, toffee, and dates. Now, on to EBF 2022...

This has held up amazingly well. Figs and dates are still evident. Plenty of carb. Outstanding.

Another couple of years. The fruit has pulled back and the sweetness has returned as candy. Nose is still good but some astringency on the finish. Not sure it has another 2 years in it, but nice now.

Like this one better 5 years later…a little sweeter I think?

Srill pretty delicious, but no sweetness in the finish. A boozy one that is easy to drink, almost has a raisin taste to it. Now it makes me want a Rasion De'Extra!

My last one. Huge dig and sweet date flavor. And medicinal and bitter in the most perfect way.

It doesn't get more solid than Olde School; boozy and baller!

The aging made it more malty tasting. Love the numbed down booziness. Nice sweetness. Mild fig notes. Very light and smooth. Extremely dangerous. Wish we got the 2012 version. Still love dogfish head and this brew!

Strong woodsy flavors with dates and figs pulling through. Amazing beer dogfish never fails

Deep amber almost brown, but smoothe and deeply sweet, yet with a more almost maple richness. A delight.

What a gorram long week. Hard is the path to fusion I guess. Anyway time for a big beer! Big and kind of sharp without overly boozy. Smells of brown, lots of raisin as it warms. Tastes of toasted bread a bit on the finish.

Never not good; finding one of these babies in the basement is amazing. So good, tasty booziness and warming notes

Toggle between this and my 2007 check-in for today. This Olde School is much different. More like a very recent one. Dark brown, more effervescent and a bit of fusel character. Thinner, but more typically expected of the style. See 2007 check-in today.

I might be in love 🥰. Maybe the smoothest and easy drinking 15% Barleywine I have ever had.
