Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout (2017)

Stout - Imperial / Double

Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, we've now taken this Dogfish Head classic and aged it on oak with real vanilla beans! With a little tender love and care we foster this beer from smooth, sweet wort into the big, bad blackend stout it always longed to be. Its bold, port-like complexity goes great with (or as) dessert.

Cellar aged for 4 years. Oak still comes through strong, no booze at all. New daddy celebration beer! Cheers!

LOTS of sweet boozey winey (think export/Baltic style) vanilla. As it breathes you get more of the roasty notes but that booze is dominant and will not be stifled. Keep aging them but they are drinking well now.

Cheers Britt! Last time I had this you gave it to me. Do you just have a secret rep closet full of these? Really mellow, but better then I remembered.

Dark dried fruit, malted choc, & burnt white sugar lead, w/ caramel mid-palate, & subtle but present vanilla extract & a suggestion of marshmallow late. Fruitiness increasingly apparent & moving to the fore w/ age.

Vanilla has fallen out. Little bit of oak remains and still boozy. Not bad but past its prime.

Had on draft, took some time to settle the head but expected. Initial aroma was boozy bourbon and cocoa. Right away sweet syrup with heavy bourbon flavor. Vanilla fingers through midway and stays throughout. A little too much syrup flavor for me.

Tasty! Malted milk choc & indistinct dark dried fruit take the fore, w/ big vanilla extract, heavily toasted white sugar, & a dab of caramel mid-taste, & overwhelming marshmallow burying all else late. 16% ABV absurdly well-hidden @5.5 years.

Aged beautifully. Smooth with vanilla notable but not overpowering. Still some carbonation, but I wouldn't let this age more than another year or it will be flat.

Bottled 7/2017 Aged in the bottle 5 years, 8 months Boozier nose (vanilla icing, cherries, coffee beans) than I expected but thatโ€™s all gone on the taste. Barely any strength on the taste at all for a 16%! Not much different than when I tasted @3 yrs

Lots of boozy oak goodness, earthy and sweet vanilla start to finish. Dark semi sweet chocolate & molasses, raisin, dry bitter backers chocolate backend. Smooth for 16%.
