Olde School

Barleywine - American

Bold, yet smooth! Fermented with dates and figs, this bone-crusher has a completely unique flavor. At 15% abv, this beer is a great candidate for ageing. Over time, the beer dries out and the pit fruit flavors come forward and the hops recede.

Got a bottle from 2012. Tastes straight up like liquid raspberry panda licorice (wheat based licorice from natural foods stores). Pretty great. I like barley wines for sure. If you’re going to go malty you might as well go all the way. BA EBF2021.

Reeediculous! Insane. Super smooth but very boozy. At 15% I guess they can't help it. Beautiful color with hints of raisins. Not a huge BW fan, but this one might make me revisit that....

2013 edition. Velvety smooth and the dates/figs add something lovely. 15% alc and smooth as butter. Have to get more of these.

Wow. Lots of fig in the smell. Taste is very carmelized, with dates throughout. Sweet finish, but not too malty. Damn good. 2013 version.

Leftover from the Extreme Beer Fest. Super good barleywine from Dogfish Head. Fig and date are prominent. Very strong. Surprised the rating isn't a bit higher

I have what appears to be a 2017. The date stamp is in less than immaculate condition. Still rocking it though. And F this snow.

Bottled Jan 2017. Buried in backyard feb 2017. Survived Irma and Fl heat and winters. Dug it up 4 wks ago. Very boozy lots of figgy date flavor and nose. Thin mouthfeel. Boozy finish and long aftertaste. Aged well I suppose. Cant compare to a fresh one

It’s not actually Olde Schoole, which I adore but haven’t had in years. This is home brewed Alf Garnett’s Cor Blimey English Barleywine. I brewed it in 2018 and this is the last bottle. Basically tasty, but flat as a flapjack.

So much goodness in each sip. Lots of Figs and Dates which gives way to a mild spice, white pepper maybe? Malty finish

13 years aged. Incredibly smooth. Layers upon layers of flavor. Malty. Basically a fine aged wine. Very dangerous. Boozy. Malty.

Found this in the back of the beer fridge… much better after 6 years of aging. Boozy and medicinal flavors are gone. Vanilla on the nose, strong plum and caramel, bitter hops and tobacco on the finish.
