KBS - Chocolate Espresso D

Mostly dark roast coffee, but some cream, sugar & vanilla aroma. Huge coffee up front, but the milk chocolate, vanilla & bourbon is there. The 12% grows over time, but it’s not hot. The coffee vs KBS notes balance out the more I sip this.

Mortal Bloom D

On the lighter and maltier side. It’s fine, but tastes a little oxidized to me on a keg just tapped today. Thanks, Josh!

KBS Spicy Chocolate (2023) D

Delicious. The spice level was well balanced, as was the chocolate. Really good variant.

Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) (2019) D

Now that Founders is making this again, drinking through my 2019 stash.

French Toast Bastard 2023 D

Tons of sweet maple syrup and French toast on top of a Scotch Ale / Barleywine base. Smoother than I would have expected for the ABV.

Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) (2019) D

At 4 years still some bourbon & maple aroma, but a little acrid (oak, tobacco smoke). Same for the flavors, but great complexity still there. Now 50/50 between sweet/bourbon and acrid/bitter flavors.

All Day Haze D

Not that great, I expected more juicy hops even for a session, but this was kind of blah. Still worth a try. Thanks, Josh!

Surprisingly good for a session. Nice bitter and moderately piney hops. Thanks, Josh!

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2018) D

Good stuff. Having this after CBS, so the KBS seems more bitter. Nice coffee and some maple. Thanks, Josh!

French Toast Bastard D

Rich and sugary maple, oak and booze. Way too sweet.

Wake Up World Wide Stout D

Coffee, maple syrup, cocoa, fig aroma. Big bourbon up front, maple in the middle, w/roasted coffee finish. Very hot @17%, boozy throughout, but good as a sipper. I’ve had better from Burial & Trillium, but it’s still good. Glad I’m not driving anywhere.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge D

Mostly fudge and milk chocolate aroma. Rich chocolate, some maple I get the heat, but it’s balanced with the rest of the flavors. Really good variant.

Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) (2019) D

Still rich and delicious after three years. Has lost a little of its carbonation, but it didn’t have much to begin with. Also a little hotter than I remember. Maple syrup, bourbon, oak, cinnamon.

4 Giants Hazy IPA D

10 pin (real) bowling with the Davis Twins. Malty and a little spicy. 19.2oz can. It was fine, but I think it’s an old can. 3.0 as is.

KBS Espresso (2021) D

Great sweet dark roast coffee aroma. Big coffee flavor, which is well done but overwhelms the base KBS. Some booze and sweetness on the finish. I like coffee beers, but this is way too much coffee for me.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa (2021) D

Great aroma like regular KBS - bourbon, roasted malt, maple. Nice blend of flavors, all well balanced - bourbon, cinnamon, vanilla extract, cocoa powder. The cinnamon is a little sharp, but this is really good. I like CBS and regular KBS better.

Frootwood D

Lots of cherry and a little oak in the aroma. Big cherry flavor, with a little oak. The maple is there, but it blends somehow with the cherry for some nice complexity. I was afraid this would be Robitussiny, but it actually works and is really good.

Olde School (2012) D

From Extreme Beer Fest Session 2. Got the 9yr old version. Definitely getting the fig and dates notes. Also molasses, Irish whiskey, cola, dried fruit. Booze is huge, drinks more like whiskey than barleywine. Mellow, lots of flavor for 9yrs old.

Underground Mountain Brown D

Nice complexity from oak barrels, blend of malts for the brown ale, complemented with right amount of coffee. Getting more oak and booze as it warms up, but good imperial brown.
