Jeez amundo, at last. These have been unavailable in OR for years. So here it is, happily joining its elder brothers, 2019 and 2014. Fresh is hoppier and just a little rough. 2014 is roasty, smooth, moving into dark English barleywine. 2019 is sublime.

World Wide Stout (2023) Cothran
Fantastic. Long reigning King of the non-BA stouts, for sure. Chocolate and more chocolate, darkest espresso, char and leather, long dry smoky finish. Great that it’s still going and still this good.

Excellent. Full-flavored chocolate, coffee, vanilla and whiskey. Nice body. Almost cracks the empyrean heights, but not quite.

Had to try it. Really like it. Smooth, sweet carrot juice with a little zing.

Well done. Juicy with tart citrus dominating. Fuzzy enough to make me happy.

In a class of its own. Definitely edging over into the world of port, or even brandy. It’s nice to let the ultra-serious malt vill come through without barrel aging, but now I have to find and try the BA versions!

Four years old and doing really nicely. Glad I have a couple more in the cellar!

At 3 years old it’s just getting started. Nonetheless an amazing beer.

Seriously sour and seriously excellent. Apricot works very well to sweeten these powerful lambics with a gentle honey tone. Wow.

So incredibly awesome. A new contender for my list of the best stouts in the known universe. Amazingly rich, sweet and succulent, yet perfectly balanced. Mikkeller has done it again!

Taphouse Smokenhagen Stout (2018) Cothran
Delicious! Super smooth (maybe from the aging?) and mildly sweet. Very lightly smoky. Big but not overpowering.

Fresh and tart with some big raspberries going on and a trace of salt. Nice crisp, light wheat base.

Wry nice! Light and crisp with nice juicy fruit and strong grapefruit peel bitterness in the finish.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa Cothran
Well, I am a cocoa lover, but I was a bit hesitant about anything that messed with the classic KBS. I do like flavored stouts, but I respected Founders resisting the trend. But it has all turned out very well. It’s delicious, with a nice dry cocoa tone.

Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) (2018) Cothran
Excellent as expected. Super smooth, ABV amazingly well hidden. Just the right touch of maple.

World Wide Stout (2019) Cothran
Something of a legend, and deservedly so. Amazingly smooth for the ABV, but this one has been in the cellar for 22 months. Hot chocolate.

Definitely a serious minded barleywine, from an expert in serious minded beers. Caramel, molasses, a touch of char, plenty of hops.

Palo Santo Marron (2017) Cothran
After 40 months in the cellar this excellent beer has aged beautifully. Fruit, chocolate, char, a gigantic expansion on the brown ale base.

This one spent 28 months in the cellar. Very, very smooth. The alcohol is almost completely hidden and the fruit tones have grown stronger.

Beer Geek Vanilla Maple Shake Cothran
Well, once again sticky dessert stow are not really my favorite, but this one is excellent. Bitter cocoa balances the sweetness just enough.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge Cothran
Well, maple fudge stouts are not usually my cup of tea, but Founders has really done well with this one. Sweet but balanced by the whiskey.

Well, yow! A very berry old ale sort of a thing. Strange and wonderful, not unexpected from DFH. A serious and lushly seductive beer.

Mikkeller Oude Geuze (Old Calvados Casks Blend) Cothran
An excellent geuze in all the right ways. Tart, lightly fruity, fuzzy with carbonation and slowly revealing more than a trace of funk.
