Backwoods Bastard (2017)

Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts, a bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark fruit. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.

Never pass up an opportunity to have a backwoods bastard. Brew guy just opened up a bottle that he had in the back

Huge barrel note on front with darker darker fruits. Quickly dries with wood and alcohol. Not sticky. Malt missing in finish. Crisp too, didn’t expect that from style.

Age took off the burn but lost some flavor. Rating high due to it being 4 years old and ok.

Palate was not as strong as the others. Hints of raisin sweetness and malty booze. Palate was bourbon spice forward with caramel sweetness. However, the flavors were not as forward as previous years and were a bit muted. Solid 4.0

Some Beer Guy

Few years since the last time enjoyed. Aroma is bourbon vanilla/oak with tobacco. Taste is caramel/toffee, raisins, prunes, plums & cherries. Subtle bourbon, oak & vanilla this time around. Noticeable boozy sweet/heat here. Not the bastard I once knew.

Love this beer so much. The rough edges have smoothed out. Sweet, rich fig flavor lingers with a touch of boozy warmth. Fresh is better, but this is still a good sipper on a chilly day with a good book (Where all light tends to go).

Ça réchauffe méchamment, Bourbon à fond assez alcoleux, au final pas mon BA préféré sur le style. Une bonne winter ale comme on dit !
