I want to like it....but it’s just not my thing. I think I’ve finally found a dark beer I don’t like. I don’t know what it is but for some reason barleywine’s do not seem to strike me.

Roasty and somewhat boozy...a bigger beer @ 11%. Good complexity and depth of flavor. I enjoy the dark chocolate (I think) and associated bitterness.

Paired with one of my favorite Star Trek episodes, Balance of Terror, aka my gateway into submarine films. This beer is the roughest barley wine I've had. High gravity burnt bitter hops.

Not bad. Nice change of pace. 4-4.25 or so. Roasty malty.

Clear dark-brown w/ a red core; fluffy tan head & lacing. Earthy tobacco nose & taste; add roasted-malt flavor balanced w/ bitter hops; dry finish.

Nemesis by Founders. Bottle Shop Series. Barleywine with a nice level of sweetness and an overwhelming amount of bitterness that lingers. Too bitter for me.

Uniquely flavored barley-style brew more dark&much less caramelly sweet than some w/great balance&palate heft for being lighter on the tongue than others too.Incredibly, dangerously smooth fooler of an 11.2 that drinks like much less w/zero alcoholic heat

Great balance of hops and rich malt. Definitely a throwback to classic American barleywines.

Was going to save this for my "weekend", but figured I had to try a bottle since it is National Beer Day. This is a complex brew- like all the grains of harvest dried and then set on fire to the point of carmel sweet reduction. Booze heavy, but entrancing

Man this mf-er was sooo bitter straight out of the fridge. Once it warmed it became much more interesting. I got herbal notes, pour over coffee, red apple, maple sweetness, licorice, and of course a ton of earthy and grassy bitterness from the hops

Very drinkable. Definitely not a traditional barley wine. Enjoying the bittering hops. Is there a category for an imperial hoppy brown ale?
