Backwoods Bastard (2016)

Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts, a bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark fruit. It's a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.

Went vertical last night. This was sweeter with notes of vanilla more apparent. Not quite as smooth with a touch of heat. Just as good, slightly different. Thanks Tomb Raider Ricky!

Finally cracked open my case. Damn has this mellowed our. Not as punishing with the scotch, but easy drinking that still packs a hell of a punch!

This one has an odd medicine and oak taste going on. But also a candied fruit that the 15 didn’t have

This has pretty much turned into a barley wine. Still good. No real bourbon to speak of. Lot of dark fruit.

My buddy Art gave me this but said to drink it tonight, so.......twist my arm. 4.5 years old didn't know what to expect. It has fallen off a bit, but i can really taste the smokiness, bourbon and roasty malts.

Even better after 5 years in the cellar. Fig and raisin are the forward nuances with a syrupy, malt finish...
