Immort Ale (2016)

Strong Ale - English

For this beer, we use maple syrup from Red Brook Farm (Sam's family farm in Western Massachusetts), peat-smoked barley and vanilla. Immort is fermented with a blend of English and Belgian yeasts, then aged in the big oak tanks at the brewery. The sweet and earthy flavors meld magnificently in the Immort Ale. But be warned, the ABV is 11%.

Didn't even realize I was about to crack open a finely aged ale until I poured it into the glass. Guess I didn't post attention when buying it. I just assume if it's from Dogfish Head, that it's going to be fantastic!

Low carb, silky mouthfeel, muted flavors all around (an improvement). Bit oxidized.

A huge peat-y caramel malt that has a touch of vanilla and a burnt toffee finish. Solid and unique brew with a nice body. It’s smoky, but probably as smoky as I would want my beer to be. They nailed the smoky finish

Still smoky, it’s slightly boozier and sweeter than I remember. Would have been perfect to go with dinner.

Busting out the fancy stuff hubs has. First flavors are smoke and maple. I’ll take it as I love smoky scotch. Definitely boozy but not overpowering.

Much more chewy boi than the 2013. More of a sipper but more nuanced.

Great balance of maple, smoke, and rich malts. After 5+ years, not getting any alcohol burn, very smooth, long lingering sweet smoky finish. Wow

Sweet vanilla blends surprisingly well with the oakey, peat-smoked flavor. This is a beautiful beer reminiscent of a good single malt scotch with a hint of vanilla and caramel to balance it out. It's aged very nicely as well. Cheers! 🍺

Great but feels past prime at this point. 1/22/16. A lot of black molasses and melanoidin character making it a bit more rough and boozy/warming than I remember. Slow sipping with a lot of malt complexity. Will drink the rest from this batch soon.
