Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA

IPA - American

The Holy Grail for hopheads, 120 Minute IPA is continuously hopped with a copious amount of high-alpha American hops throughout the boil and whirlpool, aged in Sam Adams Utopias barrels for a full twelve months, and then abundantly dry-hopped.

To me this seemed like a delicious barleywine than a IPA. Smooth while still packing a punch.

Brown sugar, carmel, golden raisen. Bourban (oaky) on the palate towards mid palate. Hop structure comes through on the finish. It has been a while since I have had a 120, but the barrel balances it nicely. Will have to try them side by side soon.

This is so much better than the regular 120, sweet raisin and smooth as butter

Delightful! Almost body numbing to boot. It has that candied hop character. Spectacular! It’s Lila a Brady barrel barleywine. There’s orange marmalade, pine, bourbon, brandy, sherry, wood, vanilla, lemon, pine, more wood, date, raisin, apricot, caramel…

Incredible. This is not an IPA, smells and tastes like a barleywine. This is a must try.

The hops are even more mellow than reg 120 and is sweeter & smoother. Cognac & orange & smooth. Booze is less pronounced too

Not much like an IPA, it's fruity and boozy like an old ale or strong ale. Good beer tho!

I suppose if a style of beer was initially brewed for a British colony, the least I can do is close out the evening (morning?) with the newest variant of what is often considered the standard of the style. God save the King. Hoppy, malty, big, rich. Wow

Wow. Slightly tempting to give it a five. Incredibly rich. Deep delicious flavor. The hop and malt melts together. Sweet, caramel, and a slight hint of baking spice.
