Blown away by how incredibly well this aged since I didn’t store it in the most ideal conditions. It was like some sort of fruity maple, vanilla sauce that wasn’t overly sweet because it was balanced by hints of smoke and oak. Bottled 12/22/15. Hid ABV.
It’s mostly all about the balanced cherry that sweet, acidic and a little tart. The bourbon is there but very light. It has more oak and vanilla character than actual bourbon character. The oak sort of comes across like cherry pits. Hides ABV rather well

Highball Drifter (2022) BeerIs
From Wednesday. Celebrating downsizing a storage unit. Still oh so good and manhattany.

Closed out cinco de Mayo with this one. Seemed appropriate.
Perfect drink for Cinco de Mayo! Need to buy more of this for the summer.

From last night. So good. Shockingly smooth for the huge ABV. Tons of dark fruit and brown sugar.
From last night. Drinks more like a cocktail than a beer but I’m fine with that. It’s basically a blood orange version of their Mas Agave Clasico. I guess it’s also their loose take on a tequila sunrise. There’s ightly tart blood orange, tequila & brine.

One of the lighter colored Italian Pils I’ve had. Love that it’s unfiltered. Past prime but still very nice. Crisp but not sharp. Crushable but complex enough to savor. Sweet corn, grain and light cereal with lemon and herbal hops that make lemongrass.

Wow! This is so awesome! Drinks like a cocktail. Hides ABV incredibly well. I might need to buy a lot more of these.

Light and dry. Goes down easy. The special ingredients are there but somewhat subtle; although the orange peel grows in intensity as it warms. Flavors and aromas of orange, orange peel, piney herbal juniper, a little berry, bread and hints of gin.
Sadly, I think this is my last one. Hope they bring it back again this year.
A little boring at first but then the juniper starts to come out as it warms.
Spicier as it warms.. More bourbon and barrel character than recent Founders barrel age series offerings. There’s chocolate, chocolate syrup, alcohol, bourbon, wood, vanilla, chocolate cake, brownies, chili peppers choc oat bar & cinnamon. Light coffee.

Really good with Wegmans Baby Blue cheese on cherry, almond, linseed toast crackers. Sad to be running low on this beer.

Ginger, Spice, Barreled And Nice BeerIs
Didn’t taste much like barleywine or bourbon, but I don’t care because it’s a delightful, festive beverage. The ginger and cinnamon bring a little spicy heat. Ginger, cinnamon, cookie, vanilla, clove, oak, hints of whiskey, butterscotch and toffee.

Forgot to check this in yesterday. Great with a Black Friday leftover sandwich.
Great ipa but less piney and sprucey than I recall. The conifer note come out a little more when the beer really warms up.
Leans heavily toward Vienna lager territory. It’s very toasty and nutty with notes of caramel and herbal hops and hints of honey. Nice crisp finish.
From last night. Hides ABV incredibly well. Plenty of cranberry flavor. Lands somewhere between a cocktail and a fruity wine. Cranberry definitely makes it appealing for thanksgiving and the cranberry, orange combo will work for Christmas as well.

So, so good. Autumn in a glass. Could pair well with autumnal desserts or be the dessert on its own.
It’s almost more cocktail than beer. One of the best autumnal beverages I’ve ever tasted. Like an autumn version of Highball Drifter. Hides ABV fairly well. Bourbon, maple, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, honey, hints of cola and licorice
over 1 year ago
Toasty and nutty lager. Fairly certain you could achieve this beer with just malts instead of using toasted seeds.
Rather subtle. Have to remember that Dogfish is more about culinary beers than extreme beers these days.

Deeee-lightful! Wonderful blend of maple a pumpkin spices. Lovely bourbon character with vanilla notes. Seems like a new fall classic to me. A little boozy but it hides the ABV fairly well. It’s like grown-up pumpkin spice candy.

The cherry is definitely there but there is less cherry than I was expecting. Not as much bourbon character as traditional KBS. Aromas and flavors of dark chocolate, cherry, roasted malt, oak, coffee and light bourbon. Hides ABV fairly well.
This is delicious but the blueberry just seems like fruity berry tartness. Only hints of actual blueberry when very warm. The bourbon and coffee, two of the best parts of KBS, are muted too. This one is more about chocolate and dark sour fruit instead.
Not nearly as much blueberry as I was expecting. There’s definitely some fruity berry tartness there but other imperial stouts I’ve had have this same quality without adding fruit. Not bad, but disappointing based on my expectations of a blueberry bomb.

The hops have smoothed out of the years. Much easier to drink now.

Super acidic and dry. Decent amount of funk too. More acid than I prefer but everything else is great. Peach, peach skin, funk, leather, white wine, oak, yogurt like sourness, and hints of barnyard and cheese. Crystal clear, sparkling light gold.
Not nearly as much cherry as I would have expected. It’s there but more of an accent piece than a star performer. Chocolate, coffee and hints of cherry. Great bourbon and wood character with hints of vanilla. Great with peanut butter puffs

Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA BeerIs
Delightful! Almost body numbing to boot. It has that candied hop character. Spectacular! It’s Lila a Brady barrel barleywine. There’s orange marmalade, pine, bourbon, brandy, sherry, wood, vanilla, lemon, pine, more wood, date, raisin, apricot, caramel…
about 2 years ago
Seems to be a lot of stuff clashing in this at first, but eventually it all comes together. There’s wood, cherry, grapefruit, lemon, orange, toast, caramel, somthing floral; and hints of toffee and dried apricot and toffee.
It’s actually aged quite nicely. Tons of cherry flavor and aroma with some chocolate. The chocolate seems strong toward the bottom of the bottle.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa BeerIs
Nice with bourbon pecan cookies and great with chocolate orange.
From last night. So much maple. It really reminds me of French toast. There are flavors and aromas of maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, toast, brown sugar, caramel, bourbon, wood and slightest hint of coconut.
Wake Up World Wide Stout BeerIs
Definitely more breakfast stout than coffee stout. It’s like having cinnamon French toast with maple syrup and a cup of coffee with creamer. There are also notes of roasted and bunt malts, chocolate and a little cereal. Not harsh for the huge ABV.

Wonderful with goat Gouda and such a great beer overall.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge BeerIs
Paired with Wegmans Ultimate chocolate cake. It was pretty good but something a little less matchy, matchy might have been even better. Chocolate overload with a shot of bourbon.
It’s nice and crisp but not really my thing. There a are bread, cracker and grain flavors and aromas on the malt side along with floral and perfumy hops.
So much hazelnut that it actually sort of overpowers the bourbon — at least in the aroma. There are flavors and aromas of hazelnut, chocolate, coffee, wood, vanilla, roasted malt, light bourbon and hints of coconut. Hides ABV fairly well.

It’s a year later and this beer is still amazing me. Drinks like a fruity cocktail.
The agave really amplifies the fruitiness. Especially the banana and pear. There’s also some pepper and clove notes on top of pound cake, honey or more accurately agave and bread. It’s definitely a a slight twist on a classic tripel.
Not exactly up my alley on its own, but it’s wonderful with some Havarti cheese.
Very fruity tripel. Banana and pear flavors and aromas with lighter pepper and clove. Good stuff. It literally is a Belgian style beer with a little twist. Slight similarities to cider and mead are also there.
Not bad. It’s mostly all about the lemon. It’s a little like a Shandy and a Gose had a baby but not very beer like. Besides the lemon, there are flavors and aromas of a salty minerality, wheat, hints of berry and something like tea.

Bottle Shop Series Highball Drifter BeerIs
It’s so good! I love Old Fashioned-inspired beer. There’s caramel, cherry, orange peel, bourbon and wood with hints of spice. It’s a little boozy but it wouldn’t be a good cocktail-inspired beer if it wasn’t. I’m definitely going to get this one again.
Reminiscent of Kahlúa and milk. The bourbon acts as an alcohol flavor and aroma character to help sell the Kahlúa. It’s pretty sweet up front but the high ABV allows it to dry out in the finish.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa BeerIs
Wish I had this sooner because it’s rather autumnal and even sort of Christmasy. It hides its ABV rather well. A little like a Stone Xocoveza without the heat. There’s dark chocolate, hot cocoa mix, cinnamon, vanilla, wood, bourbon, coffee, caramel, roast
over 3 years ago
Even better than the last few timesaver had it. Not sure I’ve had it this fresh in a while. Bottled in January. Sort of like orange marmalade candied pine needles. Wish more IPAs were still like this.

Great coffee flavor. Pairs nicely with 3 Musketeers and Reese’s Cups.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa BeerIs
From last night. Pretty good. The new adjuncts enhance the coconut from the barrel aging.
Nice beer but I may have aged it too long. I’m not really getting much peppercorn or gin. They’re there but you really need to search for them. It’s my ideal sour, which is to say it’s more of a wild ale or farmhouse saison. There’s lemon, leather, wood
almost 4 years ago
Not your typical barleywine. This one is way more roasty, but just as complex. There’s caramel, toffee, roasted malt, pine hops, lighter citrus and citrus rind, hints of molasses, maple syrup and coffee, slightly burnt malt, char, charcoal and brown sugar

Curmudgeon's Better Half BeerIs
It lost a lot of the maple but it’s great with a chocolate chip cookie.

Pretty much all rum and oak now. It’s unrecognizable as an IPA in any way, shape or form.

Más Agave Grapefruit (2020) BeerIs
It’s still good but it was even better when it was fresh.
Sweet aroma but the flavor has a great balance between sweet, acidic, sour and salty components. There’s lots of prickly pear that comes across like strawberry and raspberry. There’s also some hints of melon with salt and light tequila and hints of wood.
Well, this is wonderful! So much prickly pear with a good amount of sourness and some salt in the finish.
