Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA

IPA - American

The Holy Grail for hopheads, 120 Minute IPA is continuously hopped with a copious amount of high-alpha American hops throughout the boil and whirlpool, aged in Sam Adams Utopias barrels for a full twelve months, and then abundantly dry-hopped.

Not what I was expecting at all. Very little hops and mostly tasted caramel/figs. Very good beer but not sure if I can handle many of them at 17% abv

The taste follows the nose with very well balanced Utopia barrels, citrus and hop flavors. Alcohol aftertaste burns to sweet and burn.

So rich, full, fruity and smooth, never suspect it it is 17%, except for the barrel boozy. Which I thought was bourbon barrels, but is beer barrels. Aged in Sam Adam's Utopias barrels (barrels from cognac and Madeira), 28% with MSRP of $240 a bottle.

Nice barrel aged flavors, get a lot more barrel flavor than the 120. I think I may like regular 120 a little bit better.

I mean.......at this point just call it a barleywine. But holy shit that's delicious. Sweet but balanced, a little raisin and brown sugar. Looking forward to seeing how this ages.

NOT hype. Maybe the most complex IPA I’ve ever had. More like a barleywine. Sweet. Thick. Syrupy. Hoppy. 17% boozy to the point of heat. Amazing sipper. Best 120 to date. Cellaring my last bottle.

May as well call this one a barleywine. Thick and syrupy start with a dried fruit finish. Can’t wait to see how this ages.

Holy smokes. Joshua this is huge - massive mouthfeel, huge candi-sugar sweetness, booziness and smooth beyond belief. I haven’t always loved these Utopias barrel editions, but this one hits in the right way. So solid, holy mackerel 🐟🛢️🍺

Holy 💩. Woody barrel aroma. Thick rich sweet estery goodness joined together by straight up EtOH. The hop bitterness is severely muted by the alcohol. This...is...warming. 🍸 Sipper.

Dank, so hoppy it becomes malty, vanilla…flavors of sweet and sticky rice pudding, deep vanilla, oak, boozy. Wow.

Sure smells like a Utopias. Toffee sherry nose. And alcohol. Not your average IPA. I would call this a raisiny barleywine but DH wants to market it otherwise. Don’t down a 6 pack! Hops are hard to find.
