Burton Baton (2019)

IPA - Imperial / Double

March 2019 batch. An oak-aged, gentle giant. Two "threads," or batches, of beer — an English-style old ale and an imperial IPA — are brewed and, after separate fermentation in stainless tanks, are transferred and blended together in large oak tanks.

About a year old and still going strong. Really disappointed that Dogfish Head didn't brew this one this year, but glad I have plenty to hold me off until they do again.

1st time back to Madrones since last year, glad to see this "gem" is still on tap, now if they would only publish the draft list on here, or website. 🍻

This brew is amazing both fresh and aged. I wish this was an all year made brew. Love it!

Mouth feel is heavy...slight syrupy heavy after taste. Hop flavor and bitterness is smoothed by barrel aged

2 years old. Did not take well to aging. Vanilla reduced while bitterness accented

2019 bottle. Malt, spice, red fruit, English hops on the nose, palate is rich, dry, grassy hops, malty and caramelly, learning more about this Burton style gave new perspective when tasting, really like the bitter and malty balance

On the dry side despite some residual sweetness and hops have faded dramatically. More of an oaked English ale.

After 3 years of cellaring, there is no lacing and the beer on the whole drinks much more mellow as the hoppiness is not as potent. Very smooth and a great sipper, it drinks like a hoppier barleywine.

Revisiting the 19 after a while, murky copper pour, nice beige foam, nose showing loads of malt and wood mixed with a little orange marmalade and hops, heavy body, rich and dense, tasting more oak and orange and malt, peach, creamy, off dry, not bitter

Been eight or nine years since I've had this and it makes me lament for what DFH did and represented.

LCI, this bottle was a bit less carbonated and a like extra murky and malty, but still love it, Old rating
