Juan aged this (can’t get in GA due to the ABV 😑) and we cracked it open tonight. It did get a little hoppy funky but I’m still on the fence about aged IPAs.

9 years old. They grow up so fast 🥹 Lawd she strong. Smells terrible, taste is..more like alcohol than beer

From the cellar. Bottled 1/14/15. Changed a lot - super boozy and sharp, much less of the sweet bitter goodness i expect from vintage 120. Has a cognac crossed with grappa thing going on. Not awful but not at all what i had hoped for.

Probably past its prime. Still strong and sweet, but lacks the usual delicious punch.

Either I’ve burned off everything on my tongue or this smoothed out just a bit in 5 years.

Nightcap. Very raisiny now. Smooth. Doesn't taste boozy at all

Bottled 1/14/15... much of the hop bitterness has faded into a sharp boozy fruity mildly malty flavor bomb

Aged 4 years. Very sweet and strong. Still a little a harsh, but much smoother than fresh.

Red barleywine at this point, nice oak, nuanced flavors. 5 years of aging in my liquor cabinet seems to have worked well

A very solid Barleywine at this point, which is far better than fresh. Black and Tan with WWS as well

It's a boozy, hoppy, oxidized mess of a barleywine after 6 years...and tastier than it should be.

Love how these change so much over time. Thanks Steve IL !

Sweet, still hot, raisins, light caramel, warming finish.

I would never drink another IPA that is 7+ years old, but this is actually good. The color is crazy after aging.

Drank this one last night. Held up ok. Little bit of sediment at the bottom. No longer a booze bomb. Tastes more like an english barleywine but I think I prefer it fresh.

Rescued from the mold. I think 5 years was the sweet spot.

It's a boozy, hoppy, oxidized mess of a barleywine after 8 years...and tastier than it should be.

Surprisingly really good Hops still there with the malty Liquor finish

Wow - mellowed some over time, but still.strong - still but flavors eight years later. Super cloudy, subtle notes of caramel. Wonderfully to share dockside with friends.

I did indeed age well. Typical oxidized characteristics underlined by sweet toast and boozy raisin. Tomorrow morning should be interesting

“Ages well” indeed. Would be appropriate for #barleywineWednesday
