Olde School (2017)

Barleywine - American

Bold, yet smooth! Fermented with dates and figs, this bone-crusher has a completely unique flavor. At 15% abv, this beer is a great candidate for ageing. Over time, the beer dries out and the pit fruit flavors come forward and the hops recede.

Another couple of years. The fruit has pulled back and the sweetness has returned as candy. Nose is still good but some astringency on the finish. Not sure it has another 2 years in it, but nice now.

Faint caramel, boozy aroma. Light brown sugar and dates, very strong boozy finish.

Not sure if this was a bad bottle but was disappointed with this vintage, I remembered this being better.

BWines are meant to aged. They age so well, lose that sweetness. This one aged well.

Probably held on to this one for juuust a bit too long, as well. It isn't terrible by any means, but it's on the other side of that hill.

This was the final beer from EBF 2021 and boy did it pack a wallop. Late check-in, I know. Still recovering from that night with this 15% monster. Color is mahogany. Flavor is chocolate, figs, nuts, toffee, and dates. Now, on to EBF 2022...

A: deep murky brown. What little head there is almost instantly becomes a thing ring. A: big fruity sweetness. T: the sweetness is still there but a big blast of herbal hops is stronger. A little boozy. F: lighter, smooth

Deep amber almost brown, but smoothe and deeply sweet, yet with a more almost maple richness. A delight.
