Oloroso Barrel-Aged Olde School Barleywine

Barleywine - Other

, Olde School Barleywine (15% ABV) is brewed with mission figs and medjool dates, then aged for 15 months in Spanish oloroso sherry barrels. The result is a rich amalgam of both the beer & the barrel, replete with notes of rich toffee, toasted walnut and dried fruits. Drink now or age to let this goodness further develop.

Go big or go home. Huge malty sweetness tempered with toffee. The sherry barrel character adds a layer of mild tartness, which is fine. I would say that I wish this was bottled and would permit more aging. Even so, this is a wonderful brew!

Just lovely. Sherry notes marry well with the maltiness of the base beer.

Course #1 for the WOCAAS Prix Fixe event at Brewing & Eats. Paired with Root Vegetable Salad (pumpernickel vinaigrette, whipped goat cheese, olive oil). March Madness indeed!

Tart red wine and raisins plus an underlying bitterness that never really went away. It kinda disappointed me tbh but glad I finally got to try it.

Batting cleanup today to clear the bases of pending check-ins. Malt, toffee, sherry w/a touch of alcohol warmth up front; fig, raisin, ripe stone fruit and light spice on the tongue; woody, dry-ish finish. A bit of aging would ‘soften the edges’ a bit…

Aroma of sherry & toffee. Starts with sherry followed by toffee & dried fruits with alcohol & walnuts showing up in the finish. Smooth, malty & potent. Happy this is a small pour but sad that I don’t have time to finish this.

Big sherry and dark fruit flavor, surprisingly dry for the ABV, hoppy boozy finish. Tasty!

Beautiful day for some football. This one drinks more dry than the OG or the BBA varieties. Fruit and caramels followed by the classic figgy sweetness. The ‘fish never screws these up
