Oude Geuze Boon à l'Ancienne - VAT 31 Mono Blend

Lambic - Gueuze

The lambic in foeder no. 31 aged for four and a half years before it became this Oude Geuze. It’s typified by its fine carbonation and pleasant cognac-like nose. The fluent and mellow but strong aroma with hints of apricots and walnuts is supported by a clear oak character. Brewed on 30 November 2015, bottled on 14 May 2020.

Enjoyed this again at ealing beer festival. Shared with Bob. Complex Gueuze with a creamy body and sharp bitter sourness.

Fresh nose.. lemon, yellow fruit, nice complex taste with pronounced bitter in the aftertaste. Very good beer.. interesting habit by Boon to bottle some of the ‘mono blends’

A rare beer, single vat (rather than blended). Brewed 30th November 2015, aged 4 1/2 years and bottled 14th May 2020. Cider-esque in flavour, with a little sweetness. Oaked character discernible too.

Balanced with medium to high carbonation. Smooth taste with hints of wood and malt.

Lovely. Soft mouthfeel with a dry aftertaste. Is a monoblend Geuze a bit of an oxymoron?

Love the aroma...big funky/cheesy aroma with light lemon and oak. Flavor is similar, but it has a very mild apple sweetness.

Lovely balanced funk, apple skin, wild bacterias, clean white wood, some yellow stone fruit..Flavour is a bit sharp, maybe because of the alcohol, which imo is just a tad high & unnecessary.Nice bitters, dry, light tart & funk.Very decent but expected more..

Calvados spiked with butyric, but both relatively distant. Over-ripe funky apple is the dominant aroma. Taste is remarkably bitter and dry for the style. Not tart or sour so much. Like a bone-dry saison buried in grapefruit pith. Long astringent tail.
