Even though the very idea of adding fruit to a Gose angers me to no end, I must admit that this one is a quite drinkable, salty fruit sour.

Smells nice (of cucumber), first sip is nice (again, cucumber), but then it’s downhill.

Malty, nutty and coffee-ish stout. Very gentle, full and smooth. Excellent.

A foreshadowing beer, an omen of things to come. Specifically the solar eclipse April 8 in North America. The beer is nice. A bit heavy on the licorice/metallic notes, but dark, full and pleasant, like a moon eclipsing a star. Clear skies!

Hmmm. I get what they try to do. But I don’t like it. I mean, it’s well made and flawless, but Neupils was already fantastic.

Light, malted and bitter ale. Lots of caramel and dried fruits. Nice.

Blackness, licorice and a charred note. Not too sweet. Very smooth.

(Backlog from Feb 7, 2024) A mild and dry pilsner. Very pleasant, but not remarkable. Flawless and crushable.

(Backlog from Feb 7, 2024) Very pale and clear. A light-tasting beer with a thin body and notes of hay. No flaws in the taste, but the beer is just too thin.

(Backlog from Feb 7, 2024) Lots of taste. Funny notes of coconut and watery pineapple juice. No malt, lots of hay, but quite dry and bitter. Interesting, but not a favourite.

Bourbon Barrel Aged Colossus (2023) Johnsson
Wow. A delicious and very, very strong BAIS.
Intense raspberry taste, more sweet than sour. Liquid candy.

Hmm. Clear and clean lager. But what’s with all the adjuncts?

Spontandryhop Idaho 7 & Lemondrop Johnsson
I’m pretty sure this is not how this beer is supposed to smell or taste. No hops, no citrus, no funky lightness. Just a heavy smell of bad sour cream dip. Damn.

Oh, boy! Double cassis, double joy. An almost black sour, sharp acidity, lots of wood, but most of all a solid taste of blackcurrant.
Classic! Half-n-half with a crisp pilsner, and it’s perfect.

Very boozy. Sweet and belgiany barley wine. The taste is fine, but honestly, too boozy and honey sweet for me.
Nice and flawless, but rather conservative. More drinkable, than complex. But certainly drinkable. Sadly, I’m not a DIPA fan.

Nice fruity acidity, but the taste is dominated by unripe stonefruits and oak barrels. Nice.

Very interesting beer. I didn't know Germany had such a tradition. It's very much like a Belgian dark ale, with a fullness and complexity rather unlike most German beer. It's really very, very good, but in the end do I prefer the best Belgian dark ales.

Incredibly drinkable. Close to perfection (but not quite there).

Precisely how I prefer a brown ale. Light, well balanced and some lightly roasted notes.

Lovely. It only gets better, as the years goes by. What will we do, when the last keg is gone?

Mumbo Jumbo #1: Passion Fruit, Guava, Raspberry Johnsson
Very fruity and juicy. Thick and hazy. Trump orange. Do I taste a hint of salt, or is that just my imagination? Very good.

Roasty/charred malts in the nose and mouth. The bitterness/sweetness balance is a bit offset to the bitter side, but the beer absolutely lives up to the name of the brewery: dry and bitter. Not bad.

Discrete sweetness, lots of oak, and of course apricot. Six years in a bottle has made this a very agreeable beer.

Scour Scandinavia Spontan Seabuckthorn Johnsson
Thank god this seabuckthorn craze is just about a thing of the past.

Well. I applaud the attempt, but I don't like the result. The dry lambic doesn't suit the figs, and it's got a not too pleasant bitternes and touch of vinegar.

Oregon Fruit Series Spontan Plum Johnsson
First taste seemed a bit simple, but by the second sip it opened up. Plums are dominant over a more generic fruitiness like cherries and redcurrant. Not bad.
Very tart and acidic, and lots of wood. But the taste is not among the best in this spontan series.
Delicious blackcurrant spontan sour, nicely aged, with a restrained acidity and lovely oak. I really like this taste, and prefer this over the more traditional cherry/kriek lambics.

Niiiiice. Coffee and coconut, not too sweet, but with a perfect sweetness/bitterness balance.

I’m not a pastry fan, but this is good. Not too sweet, not too lactic, but pleasantly bitter.

Aaaah! Ein schönes Pilsener in bester deutscher Tradition. Hell, klar und scharf. Ganz super!

Oude Geuze Goût Américain Johnsson
Whoa. Max acidity. Nice classic geuze taste of sour apples and unripe plums, but bone dry and very sour. Great taste, but not for lambic novices.
Full and sweet body with a complex mix of delicious flavours. It's of course dominated by bourbon and a whole lot of wood. Very strong, but just on the right side of boozy. Nice and warming beer, if you don't have other plans for the rest of the day.

Bourbon Barrel Aged Colossus Johnsson
Lots of sweetness, darkness, bourbon and clear notes of chocolate, coconut and vanilla. The tannins give it a very nice, rough edge. Really good and complex BA stout - sorry, barley wine - with just a hint of something metallic in the aftertaste.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2016) 12.4% Johnsson
Pure music! And a great vintage.

These fruity lambics are really not my favourite type of sour. But I can’t deny that this is very drinkable and top quality.

Not as intense as a Schlenkerla, but a very nice Bamberg style smoky Bockbier. An excellent gateway drug into the world of Rauchbier.
A very warming milk stout. The base taste is very nice, but the lactose tips it over the top and down into an abyss of sticky sweetness.
Perfect. Even more perfecter when mixed half-n-half with pilsner.
Served at 14°C. Silky soft, lots of wood, lots of red wine/port. Very well balanced.
I applaud it for its adventurousness, and the boundary between sweet and bitter is very interesting. But in the end, it’s the lactose, that ruins it for me.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2016) 12.4% Johnsson
Stop it! This BA stout should be illegal. It’s magical. The rich taste opens up and develops continuously from nose to aftertaste. The 6 years in the bottle have served it well. Not fair to all the other stouts out there!

Kentucky Bourbon Stout (KBS) (2021) Johnsson
Even though this quite fresh 2021 hasn't yet developed its full complexity, there is indeed a lot of taste. From delicate mocha/vanilla to a lingering taste of dark, dark chocolate. Just missing the last fullness from a more matured bottle.
It certainly lives up to the name of the brewery: dry and bitter. No residual sweetness, bitter to the point of being almost sour-ish. More interesting than good. Lots of coffee, though.

Soft as silk in the mouth. Mild and pleasant geuze. Flawless.
