Hearty Soul BA Barley Wine

Barleywine - Other

Returned from a nearly 2 year slumber in a charred oak bourbon barrel, this Barley Wine is back and it’s alive!! Warm, toasty and full in body, Hearty Soul has a well-balanced profile of deep malt sweetness and spicy Magnum and Perle hop bitterness that complement the delicious intensity of this boozy aged beverage originally brewed by former Detroit Head Brewer, Andrew Veenhoven

Day 20 of the 2020 Founders Advent Calendar is a very smooth barley wine. Never even heard of this one before!

The barrel is hidden, so it seems thin for the ABV& style. Danger

taste: caramel, salty...salted caramel? woody, maybe that's the barrell. again, it's almost like a belgian. toffee. a good companion to Founders' other offering like curmudgeon and underground mountain brown.

Prefer a more traditional English style but getting some toffee with some hoppiness on the finish. Boozy and warm.

Really boozy. Malty with a hint of toffee. Like sipping whisky straight up - a bit harsh.

Americanish but well aged. A touch hoppy and resinous, sweet toasted toffee, booze, oak, caramel, brown sugar. Solid, thanks Ryan M.

Malty, caramel, brown sugar and dried fruit. This boozy warmer is perfect for a wet and cold fall evening.

Disappointed. Thin boozy and bitter. No real depth. Maybe for someone else but not me.

Would probably rate higher, but spent a week in a howler that had no seal and the cap wasn’t tight. Thanks, Jet.

At first it had the horrible bourbon barrel aged taste of an IPA, but once it warmed up that dissipated thankfully. Overall, it was solid for what it is but damn do I wish I was an English style instead of American style.

Boozy, sweet nose. Rich, caramel malt flavors. Smooth. Boozy. Great bourbon, woody notes. Caramel, vanilla finish. Great BA barleywine
