Rip Van Winkle World Wide Stout
Its still a big ass barrel bomb but it's finally balancing out just enough to take it to the next level. Unreal levels of fudgy caramel malt and decadent vanilla oak char tannin. Lots of heat but integrated well. Sadly my last bottle, could go years more!
This has transformed quite a bit over the last 3 years. Complex seedy stemmy raspberries, lots of tannin, some funky yeasty business, and a huge puckering sour note on the finish. Very tasty but probably the most sour Cantillon bottle I've had, damn son
over 1 year ago
Red grape is front and center here; off dry, rather tannic, oaky, and slightly on the lighter side. Lambic takes the back seat, with a musty tangy oak and phenolic barnyardy yeastiness. Nicely nuanced, Cantillon knows how to make grape lambic!

Last one for the style quest with this 2021 bottle. Tasting decent considering I don't like aged KBS much. Drier cocoa, coffee, and wood, with a generous helping of cinnamon on top. Maybe the slightest hint of green pepper
over 1 year ago
Fruit is rather tannic, kinda winey, with low acidity. A little funky and dry berry carrying into the finish. Surprisingly easy drinking. Not sure about the vintage so hopefully this is the right tick
over 1 year ago
One of the sourest batches that I've tried. Tons of funky tart apricot, a little tannic fruit skin, a nice heap of funky acidic yeastiness, and a somewhat dry finish.
Super juicy cork. Quite the raunchy yeastiness on this bottle. Funky cherry skins, ripe cherry juice, and lots of tangy funky sour complexities that I can't even begin to unfold. What a great Kriek this is
over 1 year ago
Beautifully integrated lambic and wine. Bright complex white grape, some tannin, with funky grape skins seanlessly blending into the tart yeasty Cantillon funk. Shame I don't have more, would probably age wonderfully
almost 2 years ago
2020. Delicious! Funky tart lambic goodness, blending seamlessly into the funky white grape skins. This is wondeful
about 2 years ago
2021. Bright red berry meets funky spritzy lambic. Finishes with a wonderfully zesty effervescence, a bit of tannic grape skin, and maybe a hint of chestnut. Great stuff

Cuvée Saint-Gilloise (Champions) (2019)
My favorite non-fruited Cantillon. Wonderfully balanced slaps of horseblanket funk, rotten citrus, musty old basement, tangy oak, and a dry finish.

Grand Cru Bruocsella Lambic Bio (2014-2015)
More carbonated than before! Just a soft effervescence. Much more pronounced funky horseblanket, oak, tangy rotten citrus and stone fruit. Very nicely matured and nuanced. Bolder with age, but it was a little subtle when fresher.

Finally drinking the correct beer out of this old glass. Creamy caramel toffee wheat pudding, lots of oaky buttery barrel, a touch of woody maple. Not too shabby

50 Degrees N - 4 Degrees E (2020) (Cognac)
Ultra funky oaky cognac deliciousness. 4yr lambic, its so funky cheesy citrusy oaky and complex
over 2 years ago
More tame than the 2020. Raunchy cheesy citrus funk with a more complex barrel character but not nearly as funky base lambic
over 2 years ago
Chocolate, a hint of nuts, oxidation. Its not bad but I didn't realize this can was nearly 3 years old when I bought it. Love the can art though
over 2 years ago
Fresh 2022 bottle. Can't be beat. Exploding with tart and juicy apricot, insanely delicious and complex fruit character perfectly paired with a funky cheesy lambic base. This is exemplary.
Chocolate, raisin, booze, roasty creamy coffee, and hints of other sweet adjuncts. It's not a bad beer by any means but its better without the oat milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, etc...
Tasting great. Delicious seedy raspberry balanced with funky complex lambic. Great stuff
over 2 years ago
2022 - Far cry from the Mothership batch. Founders is putting flavor extracts in everything now and it's not a good thing. Strong adjuncts capturing somewhat of a savory French Toast flavor but its very artificial tasting
over 2 years ago
Tasting great. Leafy hop character still intact, with a great tangy stone fruit and hearty earthy horseblanket funkiness. Good stuff
over 2 years ago
Tasting great after 10 years. Lots of biscuity figgy malt, oak, hints of bourbony caramel, tobacco, and brown sugar into the finish. Backwoods is the crown jewel of the Founders lineup
almost 3 years ago
New label! Youngest Cantillon geuze I've had. Brighter and more citrusy than I'm used to with these. Lacking the cheesey funk but its got a nice complex oaky sourness. Quite tasty as always
about 3 years ago
Improved since the last bottle I tried. Less briney and tart now. Funky musty and quite citrusy, somewhat tangy and oaky with the herbal/floral characteristics coming through more now. Its a kinda weird combo but I'm here for it

Caramel and resin, really nice flavor integration in this batch

Rip Van Winkle World Wide Stout
Still a boozy boi. Chocolatey and caramelly and plenty of oak. Big and delicious. The little ORVW sidecar is a great side by side
about 3 years ago
2020. Great blend of grape and lambic. Lots of complex musty fruity and tannic grape plus some oaky musty funky lambic underneath. Really well balanced, quite subtle and nuanced
about 3 years ago
Loving this new grape varietal. Its much more prominent and complex, with the base lambic taking somewhat of a back seat. Gorgeously delicious and tangy, almost like cotton candy grapes. A little funk and a dry finish.
Surprised to still taste some earthy, citrusy, resinous hops in here. Malty toasty biscuity leather caramel joins in too. Its a solid American barleywine
about 3 years ago
Chococlate and roast, a nice touch of oak, some caramel. Not sure if I get the maple but its solid
over 3 years ago
2017 sticker. Great cherry character. Great complex but kinda subtle funkiness. A bit more fine tuned versus the regular kriek. Nice fruity wine barrel hug as well
over 3 years ago
Such good kriek. Such a nice blend of soft funky fruity goodness
over 3 years ago
Malts on malts. Lots of pumpernickel bread pudding, fruit cake, raisin, fig, toffee. Not much booze, but its definitely a big beer. Good stuff
over 3 years ago
Lots of cherry syrup. Some oxidized notes next to the oak, a touch of vanilla and barrel complexity. Batch 1 was better ;)

B5 2016. I thought I would never try this again. This bottle has held up perfectly! Packed with the best intense horseblanket funk ever, earthy tangy citrusy hops, and a fantastically dry and effervescent finish. One of my all time favorite beers ever.

Rip Van Winkle World Wide Stout
Very bourbon forward, but strangely not boozy. Rich chocolate and prune, caramel, oak, super smooth wheated bourbon. The finish comes together gorgeously. Probably going to age really well
over 3 years ago
On tap at the source, randalled with apricot fruit leather. Nice combo of classic crisp resinous citrusy IPA with subtle fruit tannin
over 3 years ago
Still tasting great after 5 years. Smooth creamy dark chocolate and raisin. No oxidation! Booze is hardly noticeable, its really well integrated.

This has aged so well. Super jammy seedy tannic raspberry and malt and complex goodness
almost 4 years ago
Tasting fantastic after 9 years. Biscuity caramel, vanilla, raw cocoa, licorice, molasses, fig, oak. Very little in the way of oxidation and still tasting fantastic, though slightly past its peak I think.

Oude Geuze Boon à l'Ancienne - VAT 31 Mono Blend
Incredible funk character. Loaded with wild and creamy horseblanket funk, somewhat floral, some musty stone fruit, a surprising hint if walnut, and of course plenty of oak. Finish is short, but improves with aeration.

March 2021 bottle. Tasting great fresh. Beautifully bright seedy stemmy raspberry fruit, not much acidity, with hints of funk and oak.

Cuvée Saint-Gilloise (Champions) (2019)
Probably my favorite non-fruited Cantillon lambic. Lots of fantastic horseblanket funk. Not as cheesy as their geuze, but a lot more musty pithy citrus fruits. Always a treat.
FLN. Raw cocoa husk, toffee, leather, oak, dark fruit dreams. This bottle has fared incredibly well
almost 4 years ago
Funky, musty, fruity tangerine and some wine, cheesy oaky delicious lambic. Quite good, really nice balance and nuance
about 4 years ago
Big ol funky musty orange tang. Somewhat pronounced acidity. Pouring in some dregs balances out the orange and acidity nicely, and adds some earthiness and further complexity to the funk. 2004 vintage, 2006 cork.
Funk factor has increased vs the fresher bottle. Lots of cheesy horseblanket, even more musty old oranges and earth. Almost a little tart in the finish. More reminiscent of their Geuze, but not as strongly flavored.
2019. Real nice funky cheesy oranges and stone fruit plus a leafy hoppy earthiness. Really nicely balanced with good body and proper acidity. Looking forward to seeing how this ages.
2019 probably. A little more acidic and less funky than I would expect from Cantillon. Almost briney orangey and slightly floral
about 4 years ago
Evolving nicely. Big malty chocolate, tons of dark fruit, anise, licorice, a hint of soy sauce. Way too smooth for the ABV.
Cantillon always serving it up with an extra dose of funk. Tangy cheesy rotten oranges, earth, and horse blanket. A funk sandwich of incredible proportions.
Solid NA beer. Tastes like a sweet, bubbly and tart yuzu soda, but has the carbonation and body of a beer. Solid stuff, great summer crusher
about 4 years ago
Piney and citrusy with a nice malt backing. Nicely balanced and better than most Founders IPAs
about 4 years ago
7 years wasn't enough. 15 is perfect. No hops left whatsoever. Massively rich malty toffee, leathery, coffee cake dessert. No harsh booze, no aggressive hops, no rough edges at all. This is smoothed out beyond belief. Best 120 I've ever opened. 03/30/06

Delicious cherry flavor, funky cheesy goodness, and a little cinnamony spicy oak. Beautiful

2018. Interesting blend of musty, subtley cheesy and funky, oaky, plus that dark grape tannin goodness. I'm generally not a big red wine person, and this is somewhat in the realm of funky red wine, but I can recognize why people love it so much
over 4 years ago
2015. First Euro label Cantillon geuze for me! Praise be the Manneken Pis. This is quite the funky geuze. Big aromatic rotten cheese horseblanket funk, dank musty old tangerine basement, tannic oak, and a pleasant dry finish. Me gusta
over 4 years ago
I've kind of stopped liking this fresh for a while but this batch is great. Much smoother than usual. Big round caramel malts, honey, hop citrus and tons of resin, and a surprising lack of booziness.
2018. Basically an old funky geuze. Funky horsey deep orangey musty oaky minerally lambic goodness. The port is late and a touch sweet. I like it but I expected more barrel. Quite good though
over 4 years ago
Incredible. Beautiful raspberry fruit, a touch of tart tannic blueberry, and a good amount of vanilla in flavor and taste. Very good, but a touch more funk and it'd be perfect

Oude Geuze Boon à l'Ancienne - Vat 77 Mono Blend
Bottled in 2013 and aged very nicely. Not super complex, but it is delicious. Lots of straight up old lambic character - musty old stone fruit, plenty of horseblanket, tangy oak, low acidity. Fantastic, one of the best things I've had from Boon.
Fresh is best. August 2020 bottle. Popping with apricots and funk and even a little vanilla. Fantastic
over 4 years ago
Big beautiful bright apricot, musty funky oaky lambic backing it up. This really is best as fresh as possible, this fruit is popping
over 4 years ago
This has held up exceedingly well. Swaths of rich dark chocolate fudge and raisin pudding, super creamy with a surprisingly low level of booziness. No real signs of oxidation, if anything its slightly nutty. Great stuff
over 4 years ago
2020. Bold coffee aroma, much smoother taste. Smooth chocolatey base with a lovely sweet thread of maple through the center and big fudgy coffee bean pudding dolloped on top. Solid KBS variant
over 4 years ago
This us packed with overripe apricot flavor. Rather mild pithy funk and a reasonable level of acidity. Surprised how it still tastes so bright after this much time
over 4 years ago
Tasty but nearing the end of its time. Delicious biscuity oaky fig, caramel, vanilla. Really smooth, but getting some oxidation on the finish
over 4 years ago
2020. Surprisingly robust for a 7% stout. Mounds of dark chocolate, well roasted malts, well balanced scoop of raspberry jam. Sweetness is right where it should be. Certainly one of the better fruited stouts out there.
Still as aggressively bold as it was fresh. Strong sharp but kind of sweet hop resin and burnt caramel bark
over 4 years ago
This has aged really nicely. Sweet resinous caramel chews, not even oxidized, super smooth and tasty
over 4 years ago
Americanish but well aged. A touch hoppy and resinous, sweet toasted toffee, booze, oak, caramel, brown sugar. Solid, thanks Ryan M.
This has aged insanely well. Rich layers of biscuit, cocoa powder, toffee, caramel, butterscotch, oak, vanilla, nuts and figs. Not strikingly different than newer vintages, which is kinda good, but if anything its just richer
almost 5 years ago
Tasting quite barleywiney. Toffee, caramel, a little biscuit, whole lot of oak, and even more dark fruit, maybe a tiny but too much, otherwise it'd get that 4.5
almost 5 years ago
This ages so well. Biscuits and cocoa powder, charred oak, dry caramel, vanilla, and figgy pudding. Fantastic
almost 5 years ago
Caramel is quite a bit stronger in this batch, a hit boozier and oakier as well. Similar biscuity and figgy maltiness, somewhat nutty as well.
#4444: Unlike KBS this has remained fantastic after being scaled to a year round brew. Biscuity figgy caramel with a touch of smoke and great butterscotch and charred oak barrel
almost 5 years ago
Smoothing out nicely over the years. Smooth toasted caramel, a touch of hop resin, little bit of leather. Booziness is largely gone, drinking pretty nicely. Looking forward to trying a 2006 soon!

Oude Geuze A L’Ancienne VAT 108bis Mono Blend
Plenty of funky horseblanket, oak and a little acidity. Tastes much more mature than it is. Yeasty funk is well complimented by musty pithy stone fruit and green apple. Very flavorful.
