Backwoods Bastard (2014)

Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts, a bit of earthy spice, and a scintilla of dark fruit. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.

This is a remarkably smooth and well-crafted beer, and it remains my favorite Wee Heavy that I have ever tried. After aging for eight years, it's even smoother. Booze, malt, & toffee, plus slightly smoky, spicy, and oaky, with a single-malt scotch taste.

The crazy stuff you find at HopCat! The years have mellowed the surly nature of this brew into something far more pleasant. Toffee and charred oak with hints of bourbon. Flavors are heavy dark fruit and caramel, scotch warmth and a syrupy full body. Wow.

This ale has aged extremely well! Very smooth with a consistent vanilla flavor and a hint of nutty tones! A great find in my cellar.

"You know that you have been stabbed when you feel the deep pain of betrayal.” There are friends, and there are enemies, but one must be vigilant of frienemies. One of my favorite brews. Father time has touched this, phenomenal regardless

Just shy of 10 years old and still awesome! Love the melding of the oak with all the usual scotch aged goodness. The slight scotch finish is increased with age and still was carbonated on the pour! Nice amount of gear in finish as well 🍻

Apartment clean out of random crap that should’ve been drank ages ago. Not a lot of head, but carbonation is still there. Intense dried, boozy fruits. Needs a rich cake
