Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA

IPA - American

The Holy Grail for hopheads, 120 Minute IPA is continuously hopped with a copious amount of high-alpha American hops throughout the boil and whirlpool, aged in Sam Adams Utopias barrels for a full twelve months, and then abundantly dry-hopped.

You should definitely take your time finishing this strong IPA. Maybe not 120 minutes to drink it though haha. A strong boozy flavor is very prominent mixing with a combo of hoppy and a raisin profile. Very sweet and rich.

A bit sweeter than I expected it to be.

Foamy head that quickly dissipated. Sweeter than the regular 120 with a less boozy smell.

Tastes like a lighter utopias with a bitter finish. Not my favorite.

Not my favorite. Not sure the IPA mixes with this one.

Thin, off-white head and a translucent, semi-transparent orange appearance, with minimal lacing. Aroma- rich caramel, dates, prunes, apricot, and white bread crust. Taste- is of those elements, with lots of sweetness and some bitterness. Heavy body.

Big and chewy and somehow not too bitter at all. Barrel notes make nearly every beer better. Enjoyable sipper on this 4th of July

Um I did not look at the ABV before cracking this gift from the broski, so much for a sober 4th! Good night sweet baby Jesus. Work of art!

Man, this is good! Sweet and smooth with that cognac style finishing burn to remind you that it's a 17% beer.

The Utopia Barrels took the 120 to the next level. I wish it could be that good with 1/2 the ABV - I would have had 2.

Smells like booze and instant regret, tastes like booze and a caramely wine. But, this is exactly what I was expecting going in.

I think this should be eligible for #BarleywineWednesday, especially since the other stuff I drank tonight was BW-adjacent too.
