Olde School (2017)

Barleywine - American

Bold, yet smooth! Fermented with dates and figs, this bone-crusher has a completely unique flavor. At 15% abv, this beer is a great candidate for ageing. Over time, the beer dries out and the pit fruit flavors come forward and the hops recede.

What a gorram long week. Hard is the path to fusion I guess. Anyway time for a big beer! Big and kind of sharp without overly boozy. Smells of brown, lots of raisin as it warms. Tastes of toasted bread a bit on the finish.

Starting to show age with a slight cardboard taste.

Never not good; finding one of these babies in the basement is amazing. So good, tasty booziness and warming notes

Srill pretty delicious, but no sweetness in the finish. A boozy one that is easy to drink, almost has a raisin taste to it. Now it makes me want a Rasion De'Extra!

Toggle between this and my 2007 check-in for today. This Olde School is much different. More like a very recent one. Dark brown, more effervescent and a bit of fusel character. Thinner, but more typically expected of the style. See 2007 check-in today.

2017, 2023 - it is not as boozy as i remember, or as strong. This was pretty tasty!

Just a smidge past it’s prime, drink it if you have it! 4-5 years of age max on this guy I’d say

Last beer to share with Grey and Lew before they go back to college so I figured we'd go Olde School. They definitely approved and with 6 years in bottle, it's not hard to see why. Not nearly as harsh as she was in her younger days.

Goodness, those years did not mellow this very much. It almost tastes like a fresh 120min. So damn boozy, pecans and sweet malt, but damn this is such a big bitch.

I might be in love 🥰. Maybe the smoothest and easy drinking 15% Barleywine I have ever had.

Cola and caramel, dry and thinner mouthfeel. No sign of cardboard or oxidation.
