Chateau Jiahu

Historical Beer - Other

9000 year old Chateau Jiahu stands apart as the most ancient, chemically-attested alcoholic beverage in the world. Its recreation is based on painstaking excavation by Chinese archaeologists of Jiahuin the Yellow River basin, state-of-the-art microanalysis of pottery residues by American laboratories, and the inspired \Neolithic\" brewing of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. Sweet honey drink and berry/grape brew. This is a Class A Ancient Ale.

I feel privileged to drink this one and in no way would have ever guessed it's Dogfish Head. Incredible from sip to swallow.

From harvest beershare. Old beer that had TONS OF HONEY. At one point Dogfush was THE brewery. Then they stopped experimenting and innovating. But this is a reminder if their glorious past.

Not sure of the bottle year, but the recipe is 9000 years old for a super cool brew. Tasted good but paired horribly with food: tasted horrible after starting to eat and that was a unanimous consensus.

From 8/12. Very peculiar beer. Sweet, grape-y, musty, and herbal, but not hoppy. I didn't love it, but it was fun to try.

Unique. Full body, honey, and what I would call an English flair. Thanks, Tim!

Very interesting ale, with all the honey it tastes almost more like a mead than an ale.

A strong 9.5% version made more authentic with a grog consistency. Decided to experiment this time around and combined this recipe with a New England Double IPA. So far sweet with a bitterness to match with fruity strong hints of grapes and floral. Bomb!

Has held up and aged nicely. Sweet and fruity with a slight booziness to it as well.

I know I’ve had this before. Maybe checked in a different year model? Very dry on purpose. Wine like on purpose.
