Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout (2017)

Stout - Imperial / Double

Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, we've now taken this Dogfish Head classic and aged it on oak with real vanilla beans! With a little tender love and care we foster this beer from smooth, sweet wort into the big, bad blackend stout it always longed to be. Its bold, port-like complexity goes great with (or as) dessert.

Deep, earthy. Definitely get the oak and the booze. The vanilla is subtle but pulls it all together.

Well. My wine cooler makes the labels fall off. I assumed I was opening a something minute IPA. I did in fact not.

This aged really well. A few years made it way less boozy.

This has hung out well for 4 years. Still a bit too sweet for me but crisp, and dark chocolate vanilla swirl . GO PACK GO

Dark dried fruit, malted choc, & burnt white sugar lead, w/ caramel mid-palate, & subtle but present vanilla extract & a suggestion of marshmallow late. Fruitiness increasingly apparent & moving to the fore w/ age.

A bit much. Tastes like what I imagine chewing on vanilla bean pods would taste like. Or maybe like drinking vanilla extract. 🙄 I only give it a 3.75 because it's Work Wide Stout.

Wow, better with age. Dark, slight roasty malt flavor, strong vanilla and marshmallow notes. Alcohol finish has mellowed over time, but still has a little bite to it.

Last one in the stash. I don’t go this high often but it’s painfully simple but so damn tasty. The oak and vanilla round out the barrel burn with sweetness that is taking the bite. DFH just really nailed it with this one.

What better way to celebrate International Stout Day than with a WORLD WIDE STOUT. Big and boozy. Dark fruit berry peat raisins tobacco. Some oak. Vanilla has mellowed out. Aged beautifully
