Kriek Mariage Parfait (2022) Boyle

The new label’s making no promises about ages or blend, and the price appears to have nudged up. Unfortunately, seems to be missing some of the complexity that I remember from before. Going to have to raid the cellar to compare.

Boon Kriek Selection Boyle

Made the mistake of reading friends reviews and now all I can taste is mulled wine. Thanks Pox Bottle

Kriek 100% Lambic Bio (2015) Boyle

7 years in the cupboard, the cherry has faded a bit from the 2018, but the underlying lambic hasn’t developed the same layers that the 2012 and 2010 display. Probably the weakest of these 4.

Kriek 100% Lambic Bio (2012) Boyle

After 10 years on my shelves, the cap opens with a worrying sticky substance fizzing through the cork. Still well carbed, there’s a touch of oxidation that’s brought an almondy sweetness to the fore. Very drinkable.

Kriek 100% Lambic Bio (2010) Boyle

I set aside a bottle after my 40th Birthday Party to see what 10 years would do. As it turned out we were separated for 11 years. Paler, dryer & a lot less carbonated, the fruit has faded to an in distinct tartness merged with a more prominent lambic.

Oude Schaarbeekse Kriek (2019) Boyle

In honour of the Toer, Sunday is Boon. A non-Oude Schaarbeekse, rich jammy cherries with a nutty, slightly spiced note down the middle. Savouring.

Kriek Mariage Parfait (2011) Boyle

It’s 7 years since I last tried this vintage. Pours with a healthy head, but a restrained fizz. Chilled, the 10 year old lambic base dominates, but it opens up into a beautiful cherry wine. Dry, soft, juicy, layers on the finish. Very very different.

Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio (2010) Boyle

So 10 years ago, you could pick up a case of this for your birthday party & decide to pop a bottle away. I’ve been waiting a long time for this. Finer again than the 2015. Drier, longer finish, opens right up over time. Can see this handling 10 more.

Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio (2015) Boyle

5 years on, there’s not a massive difference. The hefty body of the 2020 has lightened, the carbonation is tighter, its marginally less sweet. The grapefruit has shifted towards lemon, with zest moving to pith.

Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio (2020) Boyle

Thanks to George Nelson N. for supplying the fresh bottle. There’s no mistaking the classic Cantillon taste. Grapefruit, barley sugar, a mild funk, layers of wood and every sip gives a little more as it opens up.

Cuvée Oude Henri Boyle

Lovely soft fluffy fine moussed oaky white vine. “Pairs with decadent cheese”. Yes. Yes it does indeed. Too small a bottle.

Beer Geek Fudgesicle BA Bourbon Boyle

Stunning stout. Beautiful barrel, high quality cocoa, dark treacle. What you’d have expected from Liquid Double Fudge if that had been good.
