Late check in. Bottled 3.8.21, much better with some age on it. Not as spice forward, dropped that strong ale/scotch ale hybrid thing I got fresh. Maintains a hop profile but leans a little more with sweet caramel tones Cleaning out the cellar continues!

Bottled 1.28.21 ; Still good but lost some of its character. Maple is still present but subdued. Roasted chocolates maintain throughout. Barrel is present but not overly there much like most of the founders barrel program circa 2021 + . Held on a bit long

Ginger, Spice, Barreled And Nice FLX
Wegmans had it on sale, $5 for a four pack. Too much spice, dominated everything. Not a lot of barrel character, and sweet. I’ll just hang on to the others and see what happens in some years. Maybe it’ll get better. Barleywines can be so good, not this.

French Toast Bastard (Barrel Aged Series 2022) FLX
Bottled 9.19.22 Definitely has settled down in the cinnamon department. Much more balanced, Cinnamon Toast Crunch vibes with a nice malty base with a kick of bitterness. Overall a sweet pastry-esque experience. Clearing out the cellar!

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge (2020) FLX
Bottled 10.27.20 , definitely has aged well. Coffee is still prominent and hasn’t turned. Slight warming of the chest, subtle oak dryness. Huge chocolate. Still a little thin but not so much in comparison to more recent releases. Clearing out the cellar..

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa (2021) FLX
Bottled 8.11.21 , getting through some cellar beers aka drinking all the founders up. It’s ok, body still a bit thin. Cinnamon had mellowed, for my palate that’s welcomed. Not my favorite KBS.

Ultimate Oktoberfest (2022) FLX
Bottled 7.25.22 , rummaging around the cellar and decided it was time. Sweet malts with caramel syrup layered in a subtle almond. Barrel is there but not a big presence. General wood notes rather than oak. Thin for the abv. Feels thick, finishes light.

Bottled 08.05.21, found a couple in the cellar. It’s alright, not sure age can save this one. A lover of brown ale but there just this odd astringency I can’t shake.

Late check in. Cellar beers. Smoothed out with age, espresso isn’t as zippy but hasn’t turned. Bit of dusty cardboard on the back end but is mostly drowned out by a bittering cocoa powder, topped with some oak.

Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA FLX
This is truly delicious, Joe . I can’t imagine this with some age on it! So damn smooth.

It’s ok. Comes off a bit medicinal and artificial. Body is thin just like most in the KBS lineup these days. The coffee and chocolate pair well, mouthfeel is smooth. Not terrible but easily my least favorite variant of KBS.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge (2022) FLX
Late check in. I think is still my favorite variant of kbs. This years batch is pretty good! Still a bit thin but tastes great.

Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout (2020) FLX
Thx ✨Jeff M. For sending this years ago haha! Just opened. Cold to warm, opening up. Charred barrel, roasted drying oak bitter essence. Transitions to a semi sweet dark cherry ashy profile with a touch of vanilla and coffee Body is medium and creamy.

Late check in. Mix a six at Wegmans find. Not to bad for a “shelfie”. Pretty juicy and has this candied watermelon thing to it. Got a little boozy as it warmed.

This is fantastic. Crisp, clean & light. Citrus forward with a mango kick. This is perfect for the summer heat. Body is thin and drinkable.

A little thin but I can get past it. Nutella mixed into KBS.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa FLX
Late check in. Handed out candy on cool fall night sipping on this! Heavy cinnamon, pretty dominant actually. Would’ve enjoyed a bit more vanilla and chocolate and less spice. Minimal barrel, seems to be trend with kbs lately.

Bottled 11.14.19 , still drinking pretty smooth. Barrel character is apparent and quickly dominated the palate. Medium body, espresso is there but has died out a bit, bakers chocolate bitterness that finished dry to a point. Worse with age?

For a dogfish beer I’d hoped the adjuncts would be a bit more pronounced. Albeit it’s only 6.5 abv and not a imperial but still wanted more. Not bad but doesn’t live up to the ingredients listed.

A lot going on as usual with a good scotch ale. It’s hoppy and malty. Sweet, oaky, earthy finish to it. Hints of caramel as well. Fresh it’s ok but id like to try this aged for maybe a year. I bet it would smooth out pretty good

Bottled 12.14.17. Orange marmalade, burnt sugar, sugar daddy, malty. Surprisingly smooth for the insane abv. Still absurdly dangerous just like MOX vs OMEGA. #AEW thx for the bottle Mike J. and also Dylan C. for braving it with me!

This is pretty good, I’m enjoying it quite a bit. Being a porter it’s obviously lighter and not as chewy as a stout. Vanilla right off the bat and the maple syrup is there but not a fake condensed version. The barrel is the most lacking actually

Más Agave Grapefruit (2020) FLX
I got this in mix a six pack so I’m not out a lot if I hated it. If you love margaritas and tequila this is your jam. Even has that salinity of the glass lip in salt. Just not for me at all. Got more acquainted with it as I sipped. Still not for me.

Lots of chocolate and raspberry, a bit artificial though, bakers chocolate type of vibes. Not my favorite. A bit thin as well. Expected more I suppose

Bottled 5.9.19 label is falling off, maybe it’s what provoked me to pluck this one from my beer fridge. Quite the beer, huge at 16%abv and you definitely get the booze but not off putting. Black licorice, oak, roasted malt, dark fruit . Full body. 🥴 done

Very strong black fresh roasted coffee on the nose and follows through on first sip. I get a dark chocolate sweetness on the back. Seems like a faint natural maple tinge if any. Body is thin, could do with with a bit more viscosity. Overall a 👍

So smooth, smoky, spiced malt with a nice bitterness to break up the bready sweetness. Overall a fantastic brew. Would love to try this with some age.
