03Mar'20 75cl. I was scared the fruit would've fallen off but this is alive and absolutely kicking. Big ripe berry, mellow acidity and some funk.

Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio (2019) Gene
2019 cork, .75cl bottle. Date code is difficult/impossible to make out. Cork was like wet sponge and came out in 3 pieces. Taste is young lambic, full of green apple skin and tannic oak. Funk is light and acidity is a bit high.

22Feb2017, 75cl. Again sharing with good folks and strangers. Super mellow oak and light mushroom funk. Spritzy and grassy.

12Nov2018, 75cl. Past the fresh lemon/apple notes, and firmly into musty basement and cheese rind funk. Nice to share with friends and strangers.

Moriau Oude Geuze Vieille (2017) Gene
Light funk, big green apple. Gently sour. Finishes dry, with saliva-pumping minerals and boozier feeling than the stated ABV? Overall simplistic but that may be due to its age.

12Mar2020, 75cl. Big juicy core, medium (lactic) acidity. Funk is balanced, throwing wet earth and camembert rind up my nose. BFNA '22 "wall of lambic" pull.

13-May-'19, .75cl. Zero pop upon de-cork, clean cap. Poured with thin, unstable head but intense cherry nose rose up from the glass. Juicy red fruit, lemony twang, cheesy funk and some tannin (!?) on the finish?

Oude Geuze Boon Black Label Edition N°3 Gene
Huge cork pop, poured with a rocky, unstable head that smelled of... nothing. Like, I couldn't smell anything until the head dissipated. Fresh grass and lemon got me thinking this is a younger bottle. Subtle forest funk, bitter finish.

Wow thanks for sharing this gem Taylor S. ! Super soft red fruit, fluffy wheat and mellow funk. Bottle/cork was in excellent shape.

07Nov2019, 37.5cl bottle. Mellow funk and acidity. Fresh green apples. Good pop up on opening but poured with almost no head.

.37cL, nice cork pop and mousse head that dissipated quickly. Poured brickish-red, making me think this could be older than 2019. Musty fruit and some funk.

50 Degrees N - 4 Degrees E (Armagnac) (2017) Gene
Felt pretty disjointed compared to the 2018. Oak/barrel was not jiving with the lambic, resulting in a jumble of flavors that ended up being confusing.

Whoa, lovely oak, dried fruit (raisin?) and a hefty dose of funk. This was a real treat.

04Apr2016. Funked up a bunch, and fruit is obvs still strong (getting a tad seedy, though). Acidity was a bit higher than expected based on previous bottles. Always nice to reminisce about international beer vacations. 🥲

Grand Cru Bruocsella Lambic Bio (2017) Gene
23Jan2017, 75cL. Beautiful silky body reminded me of 3F (🙊) but this was just layers of funk, floral grain, oak and very mild apple. Fun paired with Chinese black bean pork/eggplant.

Incredibly young tasting, and in need of some cellar time to integrate. Mix of young/fresh lambic funk, with some underlying mature Brett, and just a boatload of oak across the midpalate and finish. Thanks for sharing, Kump!

15Feb2017, 75cL. Funky cherry flesh on the nose, pleasant oaky bitterness and solid fruit even after 5yrs. As it warms, slight tannin and noyaux spiciness emerges. This was a very solid bottle of kriek.

7Oct2015, 75cL. Cellared upright for the past 5yrs, resulting in a brittle cork. But poured with a nice fluffy head. Mature barnyard funk, almost no fruitiness, pleasant grain/malt and a surprisingly bitter finish. A bit unbalanced.

12Jan2017, 37.5cL. Really nice, long-lasting head of fine bubbles sent a great fleshy cherry perfume through the kitchen. Assertive acidity, good fruit and subtle noyaux.

23May2018, 75cL. Seedy razz and funky lambic. Love how a bit of age brings out the stank. 🤤

22Oct2017 bottle, 3rd check-in. This one was a bit more acidic, a bit less integrated. Still got that washed rind cheese on the nose, with some lemon and floral aromas.

26Dec2016; 75cl. Gentle hiss upon opening but poured with aggressive carbonation. Cheesy funk, herbal hops. Some black tea notes in the mouth, but not too tannic/astringent. Soft lactic acid and slight salinity on the finish.

06Mar2017, 37cl. Hiss of the cork, poured w/out head, but effervescent when drinking. Mature barnyard funk, and dried citrus on the nose. Very smooth, grassy pale malt showcased here. Relatively simple taste profile, with a short finish.

22Oct2017; .75cl. Real nice Brie cheese funk on the nose, mixed in with some dried apricot(?!) Gentle acidity, apple skin, lemon, bit of peach, limestone on the finish. Overall very soft and impressive complexity. Great to share with some A+ neighbors.

10-Sep-'14, 75cl. Really musty nose. Barely carbed. Damp basement funk and maybe some faint apple peel on the palate. Showing a weird acidity, like back of the throat burning. Sad.

22-Feb-'16, 37cl. Ripe cherry on the nose with very subtle funk and some almond. In the mouth, everything seemed vapid. Fruit was faded, no noyaux, watery mouth feel and finished quick. Weird dark brown cork, too.

28Nov2018. Rhubarb is heavy in this - earthy, bitter, vegetal, yet sweet/tart and juicy. Was not expecting that, given how the fruit had disappeared in a recent '17 bottle. Funk/acid within the normal Cantillon range.

I was searching for botanical/floral aspects but came up short. Base lambic was a bit plain, and a little sweet on the end. Smidge funky, barely any lemon/apple character.

Big pop of the cork. Muted nose, offering a bit of funk. In the mouth, yellow apple skin and malt/grain. Body is thin, finish is short-lived. I'm not in love with this bottle. Eager to revisit later, though.

01Mar'17 75cl. Good pop of the cork, huge carb upon first pours. Big razz nose, subtle hay-like funk. Razz is a bit seedier/vegetal in the mouth. Color change is the only hint that this is 3-4yrs old.

18(?)Oct'19 bottling. Funky flowers. Very pleasant aromatics, peach and apple, mild but assertive acidity, beefier body than I expected from Cantillon.

4Jul'17 bottling. Low/med funk, mild yet round acidity, apple skin and herbal/vegetal finish. No sulphur. Not sure I'd pick rhubarb to be the addition here if I was blinded, TBH. 🤷♂️

Oude Geuze Boon à l'Ancienne - VAT 92 Mono Blend Gene
Quite enjoyed this. Some solid hay/grass funkiness, citrus, no apple, crackery malt and mouthfeel on the thin side. Nothing stood out to me, but this just hit the spot.

29Aug2016. Faded fruit remaining as skin rather than flesh. Heavy, sweet oak, almond nuttiness, lemon zest, medium funk. Thicker body than I remember previous bottles having (or maybe that's the gentle carb + fluffy body). Good even 5yrs later.

16Jan2018, 75cl. Solid pop of the wet cork. Not sure this would've lasted long in the cellar. Poured with a lot of head, and an orange/oxidized hue. Slightly faded raspberry, but some sharp funk in the background. Little tannin on the finish. Delicious.

4Oct2016, 37.5cl. Subtle funk on the nose, more oaky/woody notes. Little green apple skin, some grapefruit pith bitterness, and almond nuttiness on the finish. Everything about this bottle was subdued, though.

Another 14Aug2018 bottle, apparently. Thanks Nick M. Low-med funk, juicy stone fruit, oak and a little acidity on the finish (redolent of not-quite-ripe fruit). Mouthcoating body, but short finish.

Red color faded a bit. Big fluffy head. Musty/dusty raspberries and some medium barnyard funk. Mouthfeel is on the fuller side for Cantillon. Acidity restrained. These 2016 RdG bottles are awesome.

29Aug2016 bottle. Initial aroma was all damp cellar and old cork. That blew off and was replaced by med hay/straw funk, dried apricot and oak. Acidity is refreshing rather than biting. My previous bottle of this was much more complex/charismatic.

15Feb2017. Pretty disappointing, TBH. Unripe/vegetal cherry, subtle acidity, zero funk, zero noyaux spice and short finish. Slight balsamic notes. One of the more surprising(ly meh) Cantillon bottles I've had.

4Jan2016 bottle. Questionable cellaring; lots of sticky black goo near the lip, pink mold under the cap. Cork intact but wet, emerged with a big pop. Huge carb, rocky head. Subtle funk, red apple skins, grassy hops and intense minerality on the finish.

Light on funk, but fruit is showing as strong as ever. Juicy berry, a little seediness. Cork showed a little black ooze leaking through, but nothing remotely close to nasty. Stored upright since purchase.
