Cuvée de l’Espérance

Lambic - Gueuze

In November 2019, Brewery Cantillon partnered with Brews for New Avenues to create a unique blend. The result is a mix of equal parts one, two, and three years old Lambic with the third year being aged on Cognac barrels. 100% of the proceeds go to New Avenues for Youth to help homeless and at-risk youth. www.brewsfornewavenues.org

Light, refreshing, very modest funk, a spritz of lemony tartness and a virtually clean finish.

Young gueze upfront with some funk on the backend. Not much barrel, but still pretty tasty.

A beautiful expression with notes of dried and stewed fruit, orchard hay, crisp McIntosh apples, and toasted sesame seed all cut with a very quaffable acidity and carbonation - could solo the bottle no prob. Should age gracefully

Happy Zwanze Day everyone! Thanks erich r. for the bottle and hosting! Nose is musty and filled with vinous goodness. Body has accents of cognac interwoven between leathery funk and hay notes. Excited to spend the day with some awesome people!

Totalnie nie podzielam zdania poznańskiej braci piwnej. Przyjemne owoce, lekko miodowy posmaczek, a do tego wyczuwalna beczka z lekko tanicznym i mało kwaskowym finiszem. Moim zdaniem jeden z lepszych Cantillonów. 4.6 (odstało sobie 15 min w szkle)

Super mellow & young for a Lambic. Both funk & acidity are minimal. Definitely thinking the 3 year old Cognac part of the blend will develop over time.

Classic, funky Cantillon nose. Drinks pretty straight down the barrel with some nice cognac barrel character. Fun tasting for a worthy cause.

Less funk forward than I expected. Good woody balance that keeps this one bright and oakey.

Real time guided tasting with the man himself Jean Van Roy. Light almost still beer with subtle honey notes from the cognac barrels. Very easy to drink. Have to think a couple years will give it some funk. “Bruocsella with a 50 Degrees N nose”.

Guided tasting with Jean Van Roy. This is great already. Soft acidity, fruity and complex for a beer so young. Clear hints of cognac in the smell and just a bit in the taste. Decanted for 30 mins. “Like a mix of GCB and 50N” (not direct quote).

Rare real time tick. Live stream with Jean Van Roy. Close to still, Beer has a mild funk, cognac is a background element that represents really well on the nose. “Bruocsella with a 50N nose” sayeth JVR.

Not sure what's better. Whale of whales or unreleased bottles. Everyone is sure to enjoy this once it's released. The cognac gives this something that your typical one off doesn't. Happy with how this came out.
