Very nice balance to this year’s release. Coffee and bourbon nicely sweetened by maple and chocolate, but not too sweet.

This is the very underwhelming. Nothing about this says gose. No grapefruit - almost lime, but no salt either. This is weak sauce.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa Smalenberg
Different bottle, way smoother than first time I had it. More cocoa, no astringency and barky harshness to the cinnamon I noted first time. Dry baker chocolate finish.

Maybe a chocolatey character I wouldn’t expect for an old ale, but I like it. Really nice beer regardless of what you call the base style.

Weird profile for the style to me - even as American with higher bitterness, there is an odd peppery-leathery thing and lack of the malt complexity I expect.

Curmudgeon’s Better Half "Deep Cut" Smalenberg
The original was too sweet until it aged. This one is all about the bourbon. Lots of bourbon. Bourbon for days. But not hot. Great sipper, but some of base character is a little buried.
