HORAL's Oude Geuze Mega Blend (2022) Fanselow
The first of my Belgium spoils! This has been a whale for me for awhile and it lives up to my expectations. It’s a dry, funky Brett bomb on the nose. But, especially as it opens up, you get hints of stone fruit and melon on the tail.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2016) 12.4% Fanselow
Paper thin but not unpleasant. Retains some chocolate notes
over 1 year ago
Had this at festivals but never scored a bottle before. It’s kind of perfect. Soft apricot flesh in perfect balance with funk and sour notes. Not too sour as lambics go

Tasting it back to back with jester king reinforces how subtle and actually drinkable this is.

It’s missing some of the nuance that makes kbs great. The cherry adds an almost wine like note.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge Fanselow
Thought this might pair well with Kentuckley since they are both BbA stouts with coffee and maple. Of course Kentuckley has vanilla and this has chocolate.

Charred oak notes from the barrel cut the sweetness nicely.

Gose To Hollywood 2.0 Fanselow

Utopias Barrel - Aged World Wide Stout (2021) Fanselow
It’s a stout at its core with boozy dark chocolate notes but it comes wrapped in utopia molasses

Admittedly i should’ve drank this before the DIPA but I’m playing the market and paying $5 for all these beers

The sweetest of the three. Also a more lemonade tart as opposed to the berry tartness of the intense red

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa Fanselow
Cinnamon is a tricky adjunct because it dominates everything. Ends up tasting a bit like a Mexican mocha.

Very dry and surprisingly subtle. More grape juice than wine. Tart notes are pretty subtle for style

Beer Geek Vanilla Shake Barrel Aged Bourbon Fanselow
Bourbon forward. Some nice oak and vanilla. Probably prefer the OG but would love to do a side by side comparison!

Weird Weather Non-Alcoholic Hazy IPA Fanselow
Has the flavor of club soda. In conclusion NA beers are still not up to par with their alcoholic cousins. At least I got a badge out of this experiment.

Really beautiful. Dry tart cherries, just a bit sour. I get a hint of vanilla.

Cuvée Saint-Gilloise (Champions) Fanselow
The dry hopping adds a dank swampy note. I didn’t love it the first time I had it but it’s grown on me. It’s a unique take on a classic style. Thanks Liz!

I like how founders is like “we know you hate our BA IPAs but you’ll loge our BA IPL!” It’s actually pretty good. Tropical and oak-y. Not too boozy
