Beer Geek Breakfast

Stout - Oatmeal

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, many say, and if you are a beer geek there is no better way to start the day than with a powerful, complex morning stout. This is the beer that started it all for Mikkeller. Oatmeal Stout brewed with coffee and seven different kind of malt (Pils, Oat, Smoked, Caramunich, Brown, Pale Chocolate, Chocolate), roasted barley, oat flakes, hops (Centennial, Cascade), American ale yeast and gourmet coffee. Aroma is a combination of malts, caramel, chocolate and coffee. The body is medium with light coffee and chocolate flavors with a creamy texture, average carbonation and a bitter edge on the finish. A beer that goes extremely well with breakfast.

Bitter, mørk sjokolade på duft. Noe karamell. I munnen er det mye mer mørkbrent frokostkaffe. Ristede hasselnøtter og bitter sjokolade.

Not bad, just a hint of coffee which I don't like.

Good creamy chewy stout. The mouthfeel alone makes this beer great. I could really feel this in my nose.

Heavy oatmeal, which makes it nice and silky. Coffee bitterness would be great in the morning, a bit hard to handle after IPAs.

Breakfast for dinner? Hell yeah! So nice to be able to get this on draft and such a sharp flavor departure from the black castle! Big coffee notes with a soft ale base of oats. Yum

Dark chocolate smell. Bitter and roasty flavors up front with a creamy mild sweetness towards the end. Good thick consistency.

Intense roasty aroma. Initial strong harsh burnt malts, coffee, rounds to being smooth but still retains a harsh bitter aftertaste. I'm shocked I don't like this more, but it's a very harsh stout and doesn't meet what you expect from a breakfast stout.

Espresso through and through, roasty, rich and smooth even if it's not my kind of coffee profile

This is a tick that has taken far too long to happen. Dark chocolate and pour over coffee notes aplenty. A little red berry tang too. I'm aware significant advances have been made in the stout game, but I can see why this has the status that it does.

Roast notes in the aroma. More cocoa than coffee. Dry flavor. A little bitter in the aftertaste. Paired with a steak - roasted notes and bitterness complemented it really well.

Roasty breakfast coffee vibes are well captured (aside from the smokey notes). If I were to drink a stout at breakfast, I'd probably grab this.
