French Toast Bastard (Barrel Aged Series 2022)

Scottish Ale

Backwards Bastard gets the full fledged breakfast treatment! Our malty and rich bourbon barrel-aged scotch ale is introduced to the essence of smooth Maple, warm cinnamon, and notes of sweet vanilla for an incredibly decadent brunch inspired sipper. One taste and you'd swear you were digging into your Sunday morning french toast. Breakfast for dinner anyone? What is something off my bottle

This has aged insanely good. The maple is up front with cinnamon, vanilla, and mild bourbon.

From Saturday night. Had this sitting for over a year and I don’t know why. Wasn’t really trying to age it, I just never got around to drinking it. Excellent beer! Better fresh. Loses some of the vanilla and cinnamon over time.

This has gotten even better with age. Dry cinnamon. Delicious cream, and vanilla. Not sweet, but tastes exactly as the essence of French toast.

Definitely nailed french toast, but like a lot of big breakfast beers there's a definite limit to how much I could drink in a sitting.

Backwoods meets Breakfast. Maple goodness added to Backwoods. Fantastic. Headache inducer but worth it.

It’s delicious! Vanilla forward, sweet maple syrup, boozy bourbon presence & cinnamon. I’m so glad the cinnamon isn’t overdone, it’s damn tasty!

All things considered, this beer offers exceptional value for the price point. Nails the French Toast vibe with tons of sticky maple, cinnamon spice & smooth vanilla sweetness with a lingering French Toast Crunch cereal finish. Very subtle barrel though.

I'm a big fan of both French toast and bastardy, and here we have both in a single package. Thanks, Ben!

Hark!

It’s great for sure but even a taster might be too much for me. Super sweet maple vanilla and big cinnamon. I don’t get much of the base and that’s the beer I adore tbh.

Wow, lovely nose. Reminds me of that French toast cereal from the 90s. Flavor is a mix of vanilla bean and cinnamon sugar. Touch of dark roast coffee and burnt caramel. Way better than the prior version I had.

Sweet and savory. Cinnamon isn't overwhelming, which can be difficult to do. Vanilla and maple compliment each other quite nicely.
