My first time having this, and it’s unsurprisingly incredible. A close second to Magic Lambic so far!

Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio (2012) Czapka
A bit on the vinegar side, but still awfully nice!

Can’t say I’ve got any complaints about how this guy has been aging.

World Wide Stout (2023) Czapka
It really does remind me of those delicious Dogfish caution caps from back in the day!

That feeling when your taxes are submitted on 2/4 and those refunds will be coming well before most folks are even thinking about filing.

Let’s be honest: this is still a really boozy quadruple IPA. We’ve finally come full circle.
More akin to 2012 than 2011, but a bit more alcohol bite. Still not much to complain about.
There’s that booziness again. Strong enough to smell it this time. Barely any hoppiness, still, but the malt has plenty more alcohol heft.
Still has a strong hoppy aroma, but it’s mostly nonexistent on the palate. Suuuuuuper alcohol-forward though.

Is that toffee I detect on the nose? No hops to speak of, and a significantly smoother finish. A major step up over 2011.

KBS Spicy Chocolate (2023) Czapka
Not super spicy, but weirdly, also not as much coffee as I would’ve liked.

French Toast Bastard 2023 Czapka
Hooooooly maple buttered pancakes, Batman. That is A. Lot.

Kentucky Bourbon Stout (KBS) (2021) Czapka
Bottled 9-9-2021. One last birthday treat before I return to obscurity once more.

My other favorite toast of the year. Happy anniversary, my love! Six years down and a lifetime of love to go! 😍🥰

It’s been a really long time since I’ve had an Iris this fresh, and I really need more of this in my life.

Conclusion of the book antepenultimate. Biographical reminiscence part the final. Etc.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2019) Czapka
The coffee has all but vanished, but it’s left a ton of dark chocolate character and also let some of the bourbon char shine in a rather surprising way. An awfully suitable way to bid this long-standing cellar standard adieu!
Lots of chocolate and roast, and perhaps not as much coffee as I’d like, but the body remains thick and rich, with a long and lingering finish.

I’m not 100% sure why this is a thing that needed to happen, but I also don’t hate it so…what do I do with this?

Honestly, as a fan of barleywine, I can’t say I hate that many of the adjuncts have faded. Feels like life to me.

Kentucky Bourbon Stout (KBS) (2021) Czapka
Another unintentionally late check-in, but as this was bottled on my birthday in 2021 (9-9), it felt like the perfect bookend to what was an exceptional long weekend of celebrations. Thanks to all who shared a drink (or more) with me!

This one was from last night, but it’s my other favorite pour of the year, and shared with my favorite lady. Happy anniversary, Amy!

Kentucky Bourbon Stout (KBS) (2021) Czapka
It’s not often I lose a bottle in the back of my fridge, but…here we are.

Kinda shocked by how smooth and easy-drinking this absurd brew ended up being. Let’s go!

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2022) Czapka
It’s finally here! I think this has a decent balance between the coffee and the cacao, but I’m not finding either flavor presenting particularly strongly. Nor, too, is the barrel truly dominant. Balanced, yes, but a bit muted.

Kentucky Bourbon Stout (KBS) (2021) Czapka
If I’m being honest, a lot of the notes of these are starting to blur together and not especially distinguishing themselves, even as I continue to enjoy them.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2020) Czapka
That five-year vert train just keeps on rolling…

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2019) Czapka
Second bottle in the vertical, and while the coffee has been holding up more nicely than in the ‘18, the overall impression is not that of a beer that has developed well with age.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2018) Czapka
Loaded with chocolate, but otherwise a bit one-note. Honestly glad I’ve decided not to age these anymore. It’s not to their benefit.

Kentucky Bourbon Stout (KBS) (2021) Czapka
I guess that’s pretty much the only way to end a supremely weird day.

Kentucky Bourbon Stout (KBS) (2021) Czapka
Some nights, you just need that familiar, reliable sipper.

Surprisingly thick in body, with a ton of chocolate in the flavor. The hazelnut is balanced if a bit mild, but definitely shows up in the nose and the finish.

It’s been a while since I’ve had a fresh Bastard, but I’m happy to report it’s just as rich and refreshing as I remember.
Been a few minutes since the last time we got this beer, and while it’s not crazy impressive, it gets the job done for what it is.
Can’t say I hate this one bit, even if it is a bit on the older side.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa (2021) Czapka
A dash heavy on the cinnamon, which cuts through a little too much of the coffee for my liking, but still pretty darn good.

Peace (Bourbon Barrel Aged) Czapka
Definitely past it’s prime, but still pretty yummy.
Not the beer I expected to ever see on nitro, and I’m not 100% sure it works as well as the standard edition, but it’s tasty as an experiment.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa Czapka
I’m a bit of a purist, so I wasn’t too stoked about this variant, but it definitely gets the job done. More cinnamon in the nose than the palate, but it’s still there. Vanilla is a role player. Like a churro dipped in cold brew.

Not necessarily sure what this is trying to accomplish. It’s good, but odd.

VERY excited to share this with my love, who probably hasn’t had all that many fresh dry-hopped lambics. Man, is this tasty. The earthy, funky character carries quite nicely. It just delivers exactly as expected.
