Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio (2015) R.

4 October 2015. Nice aged and mellow dusty musty funk. Little heavy on the grapefruit notes though

Zwanze 2022 - Poivre de Gorilles R.

Shocked by how good this was. Pungent floral aroma, roses, grapefruit, perfume. Pepper on the taste but without the spice. Herbal. About as good as draft Cantillon gets. Hope to try out of the bottle one day. Happy Zwanze! 4.6

Grape forward. Bright and delicious. Hint of pineapple. Seems like it could develop some astringency in a few years. 4.4

Brabantiæ (2019) R.

This is just so good. Sweet port and wood in the aroma. A wonderfully balanced musty Cantillon gueuze underneath. Some citrus but without the acidity. LPG level. Thought I had stocked up pretty well but I think I’m gonna have to seek out more haha

Lambic Vin Jaune / La Vie Est Belge (2014) R.

Late check-in. Easily my favorite beer from Quintessence. Restrained aroma, but the flavor is unbelievable. Wonderful mix of raisins, curry, nuts, and sherry. Blows away the 2020 vintage.

Catching up on some check-ins. From La Fruitiere. Cognac barrel. Very tasty and not oxidized at all.

Canti Fonte Pasta E Basta R.

Late check-in from PastaMadre. Tons of delicious Sangiovese with Cantillon funk taking the backseat. Lower carb. Loved it

Gueuze +2+3+4 (2011) R.

Late check-in from Quintessence. Alcoholic pineapple juice. Totally different from any other Cantillon. 4.2

Fou' Foune (2016) R.

29 Aug ‘16. US Label. Fruit no longer at the forefront; it’s mild but pleasant. Acidity moderate but not detracting. Excellent aroma. Dusty. Light brett phenols. Apricot skin. More minerality than the average Loon. 4.4

Fou’ Foune (2021) R.

Quite similar to the 2020 vintage. Tangerine more than apricot, bright and sharp. There’s a deep horsey funk in there that occasionally comes out

Oude Geuze Apogee R.

This is stellar. Absolutely ridiculous balance. Apricot, lemon, rhubarb. Dry with a nice minerality. Funk is relatively subtle, but wonderfully complex. Clean and dry finish. Excited to see how these drink over the next 20 years.

Nice upfront fruit and funk but the flavor fades quickly, lacking in sustain and finish.

Came across like a slightly above average bottle of classic gueuze

A little bit of coconut-pineapple in the aroma. Enjoyed the 2018 vintage more

Bruocsella 1900 Grand Cru (2018) R.

Valentines Day bottling. Wow, will need to seek out more of this date. Big classic musty Cantillon funk, perfect finish. Not too lemony or grapefruity as GCB can sometimes be. Pretty sure Philip C. hooked me up with this a few years ago. Thanks! 4.6

Zwanze 2020 - Brettrave R.

Earthy fresh pressed beet juice on the nose. Beets overpower the lambic but nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed it. Went for a second pour. Would love to try out of the bottle with some age!

Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio (2005) R.

Veronica got off work early so I was able to head over the hill for the scraps. So stoked this was available. A little more acidic than ideal but dang this funk is just ridiculous. Some burnt tire. Bright and musty. Delicious!

Vigneronne (2020) R.

From last night. 12 Oct ‘20. Viognier flavor is on-point and the higher quality grapes are evident. Low acidity and balanced. More light brett farmhouse style funk than traditional Cantillon funk. Should age incredibly well. 4.4

Pi Day. It’s classic Cantillon but the funk is totally cranked up. Barnyard. Dusty. Not as soft as some other LPG bottles. 4.6

Lots of spirit and oak. A brighter more acidic batch, but the acidity hits in a wine-like way that isn’t bothersome. 4.4

Mineral aroma with massive amounts of hay. Dry. Green apple. So different from any of the other bottles this weekend, not your typical Loon profile at all. I think this could go another 10 years easy. 4.6

What a weekend with Chase F. cracking some postponed celebratory bottles. Classic Cantillon funk, but cranked up a notch. Balanced flavor profile, oak, just sublime. 4.8

Rosé de Gambrinus (2017) R.

1 March 2017. Wow this is one of the best bottles of RdG I’ve ever had. Drinking so well. Raspberry, fruit punch, maybe even a little Pinot. Moderate backing funk. Balanced. Comparing to the Raspe I had last week is like The Godfather versus Corky Romano

Fou' Foune (2020) R.

From yesterday. Shelton label. Couldn’t pick out any of the classic Cantillon funk and instead it had an almost American farmhouse quality to the yeast profile. Tangerine apricots. Restrained acidity. Will be interesting to revisit. Thanks Mike R. !

Saint Lamvinus (2016) R.

Yesterday. Grapes, wet basement, and a gorgeous appearance. I think this one will be good for at least another 5 years, if not more. Not my favorite vintage, but still St Lam is St Lam.

Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio (2016) R.

16 September 2016. Best bottle of classic gueuze I’ve had in a few years. All the right dusty grapefruit notes with ultra low acidity and impeccable balance. This is a magic batch. Seek it out. Thanks Mike R.

Apricots have a fresh orange and tangerine character, similar to the 2017 vintage, but IMO this is slightly better. Bright with very mild funk. Excited to see how this one develops. Thanks Brian M. !

26 December 2016 bottling aka the magical batch. Dusty newspapers, full and robust, crazy low acidity. Peach tea. Just as good as the last time I had it

Brabantiae (2018) R.

11/25/18 bottling paired with duck for Xmas dinner. Port comes through in the aroma especially. Then it’s classic Cantillon gueuze, with a bit better balance than a normal bottle. Totally loved it. 4.6

Magic Lambic (2020) R.

Waiting for a time to see friends & fam for the true celebratory beers, but cracking this one solo will do in the meanwhile. Vanilla smooths out the acidity. Not a particularly deep or funky pour; just a quirky & delicious berry dessert. 24 June bottling

Nath (2018) R.

Rhubarb is mild, pleasant, and structured. Carb dissipates quickly. While it shows low acidity, it’s also watery and dull, lacking the driving funk this beer deserves. Weakest bottle of Nath I’ve had in awhile.

Let’s make this a Zwanze weekend! 2013 bottle date. Last time I had this bottling was my wedding day and it’s maybe even better than I remember. Dusty, deep, and delicious.

Happy Zwanze Day! Vig and homemade Morgan Hill Margherita pizza. This Vig is just bursting with flavor. Intense grape and barrel. A little on the acidic side but everything follows through nicely on the flavor progression.
