Zwanze 2020 - Brettrave

Lambic - Fruit

This year, we wanted to return to our roots, which inspired the special blend for Zwanze 2020: Lambic with beetroot! The beer's color is intensly red, fluorescent even, and the nose is fruity yet quite earthy. The palate is complex, a nice balance between the acidity of the Lambic and the roundness of the beetroot.

Earthiness from the beetroot gives way to a tasty lambic that I’m glad we had the chance to try..

Certainly dirt and grass are acquired tastes, which I somehow got used to after beet smoothies of yesteryear.

As someone who loves beets, this is in my wheelhouse. Earthy nose, beets throughout and even on the dry finish.

Smells like fresh beets directly from the ground. A true beet lambic.

This is a literal beet juice sour. Only Cantillon could pull it off

BEETS! BEETS BEETS BEETS! BEETS IN BEER! THIS IS SO COOL! Some very earthy, beet like aromas. Flavour still holds true to the tart Cantillon base, but the beets add a lovely, earthy sweetness.

Fabulous beer aroma. Fabulous beer. This is not what I expected from a beer. I expected an earthy deep taste but it was fresh and effervescent.

Impossible to pass this up, and even harder to have a second time. Glorious color suggests cherry, but there's the rub ... beets have you fooled. A rather odd, weirdly delightful beer overall.

"Beet-y" nose, as described by our server at one of the best bars on the planet - so happy to be back here - but opens up so well, and getting the tart cherry, beet/rhubarb, and overripe peach. Excellent. Missed 2021 Z Day, but very happy w this. 4.55

Nose is straight beets. Earthy and soil. Behind that is a light geuze funk and woody character. Palate initially highlights the beet but then adds in some red berry, umami/mushroomy tones, finish with a moderate acid and tannic woody character. Awesome.

Had to miss Zwanze the last 2 years, but at least I still managed to grab a pour of this. Big time funky beet nose. Taste isn’t too far off, pleasant acidity amongst the earthy, funky beet flavor. Interesting is an understatement.

More like a fancy beet juice. Tasty but it’s pretty beet dominant

Funky lambic…. You can definitely taste the beetroot. Not a big beet fan myself, but this is tart and refreshing. Always fun to try limited run beers!
