Zwanze 2020 - Brettrave

Lambic - Fruit

This year, we wanted to return to our roots, which inspired the special blend for Zwanze 2020: Lambic with beetroot! The beer's color is intensly red, fluorescent even, and the nose is fruity yet quite earthy. The palate is complex, a nice balance between the acidity of the Lambic and the roundness of the beetroot.

Total beetroot, but not too earthy/soily and underpinned by that classic Cantillon funk.

Lovely sharpness, light earthy, and hint of pickle like quality acidity, very good.

That's more like it. Big fruit, bit of beetroot is definitely there but if I'm honest I'm not sure I'd have called it if I hadn't know. Really good. Cheers!

Very direct beets. I like beets, but I can see why this would be divisive.

Hard to rate. Pure beer juice. I would never drink this again but can’t judge whether or not it was well made. Definitely the lowest point of Zwanze Day. I guess it’s an experiment and that’s the point?

I said on the way to the fest to Jen S. I wasn’t sure if I would like a beetroot beer, and she said it might be nicely sweet and a good lambic complement. Nope! Bitter and off putting, just like beets.

This is an insane beer. My Polish roots love it because it tastes like you’re drinking borscht (beet soup). I don’t think I’ve ever had anything like it before.

Wanted to like this beer (love beet beers) and really loved the sweet beety front end of it, but the bitterness at the back end clashed hard with the rest of the beer—not worth drinking

Beautiful color. Strong beet aromas which follow through on the palate with an earthy finish. Bit odd for a beer but interesting.
