Dankwood (2018)

Red Ale - Imperial / Double

What do you get when a big, bold imperial red IPA meets an oak bourbon barrel? A palate stunner that'll send your senses spinning or, as we like to call it, Dankwood. Rich caramel notes emerge from the depths of the IPA, highlighting strong malt character while the bourbon barrel-aging develops the complexity. A dank, sticky and slightly sweet sipper, Dankwood is the perfect alchemy of wood and hops. You may remember this beer as barrel-aged reDANKulous, which was featured heavily in our taproom (and many of our bellies). 12.2% ABV. 65 IBUs. Dankwood is the third release of 2018 in the Barrel-Aged Series.

Imperial red IPA op bourbonvaten. Hoppig, zoetig en heerlijke Bourbon afdronk. Warme caramel- en houttonen; beetje plakkerig. Passende naam: Darkwood.

Efterbesk!

2 yrs has done this well. Much more depth of flavor all around. Sweet malt, rich caramel, & honey up front. Good amount of barrel present. Boozy/hoppy tingle on the finish

Bourbon zoet (mais), veel hout in de neus. Fris bittertje. Mooi in balans, de 12.2% haal je er niet uit.

First beer @ 31! Pours amber brown with a persistent light Carmel head.feuity hops on the nose laced with a whiskey whiff. Slick sweetness which copious hops, followed by a dry finish.

A little old but held up surprisingly well. Boozy, oaked, rye with a decent hop character. I'm glad I took a chance on this.

3 year aged. Super boozy, slight raisin past all the alcohol, a little bitter like orange pith, and pretty musty

Smells like sweet caramel and rye whiskey staves. Pleasant. Brew is a murky brown color that almost looks like muddy water w/ sediment. Can taste the red…malts& hops, but not much IPA left after aging. But there is hops under the barrel. Mellow aged.

Put this away for a couple of years. Being an imperial IPA aged in bourbon barrels, at 12.2%, it was worth a try. Still tastes great, lost some of the bourbon, but still has some spice.
