Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout (2017)

Stout - Imperial / Double

Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, we've now taken this Dogfish Head classic and aged it on oak with real vanilla beans! With a little tender love and care we foster this beer from smooth, sweet wort into the big, bad blackend stout it always longed to be. Its bold, port-like complexity goes great with (or as) dessert.

12 beers of Christmas Day 5. Extremely mellow. Really nice having the woodiness of the oak without any bourbon notes. Lets the core of the beer shine through. Mild impression of vanilla but subsumed by the oak. No burn from the alcohol.

Wow. This has been in the Blackthorn cellar for a while! Holy smokes it is good - maybe just a hair too sweet.

I don’t taste the vanilla. But the stout is very smooth.

Yowza, at this point the heat is front and center followed by the vanilla.

Bottled 7/2017 Aged in the bottle 5 years, 8 months Boozier nose (vanilla icing, cherries, coffee beans) than I expected but that’s all gone on the taste. Barely any strength on the taste at all for a 16%! Not much different than when I tasted @3 yrs

5+ years is too long. Lots of goodness held up: sweet vanilla, mellow woody oak, some cinnamon appears now. As I have found with other aged dark beers, a soy sauce umami is an unpleasant distraction.

Lots of boozy oak goodness, earthy and sweet vanilla start to finish. Dark semi sweet chocolate & molasses, raisin, dry bitter backers chocolate backend. Smooth for 16%.

Cracked this open from 2017. Likes it a lot more than the utopias version I bought at the same time. Lots of barrel and while it was boozy it was less than expected 4.44

Aged well but not as good as fresh, imo. The sharp edges have softened but there’s a hint of soy sauce this time around. Otherwise, it’s a chocolate vanilla boozy beast (as it’s meant to be).

Infinity better than it was when fresh. Vanilla has integrated well and stout is much more rich and mellow than when it was fresh. Seems with dogfish head stuff, you just need to buy it and forget about it for about 5 years.

This beer has aged magnificently. Tons of nilla still and way too mellow for 16+. First fireside beer of many under the gazebo.

Bottled 6/15/17. Almost 6 yrs old. Let's see how she aged and tastes. Picked this up in Milton at the brewery. Oak, vanilla, a little sweet, chocolate, not very boozy but damn delicious.

I almost feel bad for mixing this with Belgian chocolate ice cream to make a float, but it was delicious.
