Gueuze Loerik (2018)

Lambic - Gueuze

Guess who is back? A Loerik Cantillon, 20 years later! A Loerik is a mixture of lambics that will give birth to a gueuze whose fermentation - for an unknown reason - will last much longer than an ordinary gueuze. While a gueuze will need several months of cellar before sparkling, a Loerik will have to rest years due to this slow fermentation. Since yeasts don't act as strong as they should, this atypical gueuze is considered lazy, hence the name Loerik (meaning lazy in Brussels dialect). We can't explain this slower development and are therefore unable to plan for making such a beer. A Loerik is always the fruit of chance with a beautiful end result. Slow fermentation gives beer a lot of complexity and delicacy.

Very nicely rounded. Also quite barrely, but you can feel a more youthful character and less citrus. Should be quite amazing with some time. Unique and great in its own way.

Definitely lazier and sweeter than b3, goes sure on a nicer balancing in between sourness and the brettish components. Blanket and tears. Finish not so long but it’s so drinkable and that’s a great thing. Lemon overall and punch of apricots. 4.30

not so different from the classic Cantillon gueuze; gentle carbonation, balanced acidity, good drinkability

15 avril Fruitière. Miam. Ok elle a recarb mais c’est tellement bon. Même si c’est “juste” une gueuze.

Dusty wood, mineral, and citrus nose. Flavor is Cantillon bacteria, lemon, light horseblanket, pepper, cedar, barn, and leather. Medium to fuller bodied with some nice balance. Really drinkable for only 4 years old, and has a good bit of carb

Mildy acidic. Little to no carbonation. Surprised by the stong grapefruit flavour, a really fine one.

Yeah, yeah, "regular gueuze" bla bla bla. And yet this one drank more lively, sprightly than other run-of-the-mill gueuzes from Cantillon. I quite enjoyed this, more than I anticipated. [2021 Catch Up]
