La Corvée (2023) Sivarajah

Almost like the better managed red wine sibling of Racine. Complex aroma and taste of cranberry, strawberry, elderflower, olive oil, vanilla, toffee. Almost messes with the senses but it’s incredibly drinkable for the complexity. 4.7

Zwanze 2024 - MMXXIV Sivarajah

After a long day of drinking this did not hit the spot. Almost rotten brine. Imagine it’s what algae would taste like. Way off the 2022 Zwanze and can’t imagine it’ll be redone.

Drogone Lambic (2021) Sivarajah

Might look like a downgrade but it really isn’t. More of a show of my exposure to Cantillon’s phenomenal work with European vineyards. It’s still gorgeous albeit a tad more acidic than I remember. There’s plenty of depth to cut through.

#YearoftheLager Sivarajah

For the most part, it’s well done. Bread, biscuit, slight caramel depth as expected. Full enough mouthfeel for the style. Just lacking a bit of bitterness to balance it off.

50 Degrees N - 4 Degrees E (2020) (Cognac) Sivarajah

Still loving this one. Perfectly integrated Cognac BA and it plays well with the Lambic. Cantillon dirty funk is replaced with the spirit. 4.4

Grand Cru Bruocsella Lambic Bio Saison 2016-2017 Sivarajah

Gets a lot of hate given that it’s flat but I always enjoy the complexity on offer. Dirty Cantillon funk front and centre.

Vigneronne (2018) Sivarajah

Won’t ever know why they moved from Muscat to Viognier. Unfortunate comparisons to the Bofkont Muskaat 2020 mean this gets a lower rating as a result. Very nice though. 4.35

Blåbær Lambik (Blueberry Lambic) (2021) Sivarajah

One off the wish list. Super fruit forward. Lots of blueberry jam with minor hints of the phenolic nature. Horse blanket and that usual dirty Cantillon funk. Works really well. 4.35

Oude Geuze Goût Américain Sivarajah

Seems like it’s settled from something overly ripe/acidic. Quite low on the funk/apple given but an easy drinking effort.

Vigneronne (2021) Sivarajah

Apricot, peach, honey, apple, lemon, less dirty funk than usual, cheese, hay, horseblanket. Reasonably fine carbonation. Takes something like a Tilquin Pinot Gris and delivers more grape character without losing balance. Nice 4.3

Oude Geuze Boon à L'Ancienne - Vat 86 Mono Blend Sivarajah

Delivers on the promised flavours: peach schnapps, vanilla, peaty caramel, pineapple, wet wood. It overbears any of the funk and usual Geuze flavours unfortunately rather than complementing them. Flat mouthfeel too albeit not offensive here. 3.4.

Magic Lambic (2022) Sivarajah

Nice to try it but it’s not great. Usual aromas of raspberry, blueberry, vanilla, mild dirty funk, jam, jelly. Taste is heavily acidic overbearing the usual raspberry jam. It’s almost as bad as 3F Hommage/Framboos can be

HORAL's Oude Geuze Mega Blend (2017) Sivarajah

Middle of the road aged Gueuze. Nice carbonation, lemon, apple, mild funk, hay, horse blanket. Pleasant but not as complex as I’d like from 6 years in the bottle. 3.8

Fou’ Foune (2022) Sivarajah

Another average year for the worst seasonal. Sour, acidic, no real brightness or depth from the apricot on offer. To be fair Raf struggles to manage the acidity on apricots so anyone else doesn’t stand a chance. 3.3

Magic Lambic (2020) Sivarajah

Sat on this for way too long but such a treat from the bottle and I fully see the appeal. Lots of raspberry jam, vanilla, blueberry, nice funk, some mild acidity and bitterness. Very Bokke like in nature albeit not as bold. 4.4.

Piacere Sivarajah

Just amazing. A bit like the Pasta E Basta, it’s super vinous yet retains some balance and feels like a Lambic rather than a red wine. Cherry, blackberries, leafy, tannins. Gorgeous grapes.

Rosé De Gambrinus (2022) Sivarajah

Super interesting to have this reasonably fresh. Lambic Framboise like this could change my mind about raspberries in beer. Lovely, vibrant, jammy. Low complexity at this stage but still enjoyable.

Iris (2018) Sivarajah

One from last night. There are worse beverages to imbibe in a hotel. Lovely bitter, earthy, biscuit, vinous, herbal, almost elderflower, oak, dirty funk. Complex but a bit rough on the finish. Well worth ageing on this evidence.

Cuvée Saint-Gilloise 2021 Sivarajah

Lemon, underlying apple, floral, oak, hints of barnyard funk, earthy bitterness, tartness/very slight acidity that helps to cut through the rich bitterness. There’s a slight vinous, herbal element from the hops but it’s faded. Nice, overall.

Fou’ Foune (2021) Sivarajah

Quite young but also showing some acidity as experienced in the 2019 bottle I had. Considerably less fruity than the 2020 version. Some dirty Cantillon funk and odd raw onion present as well which. Decent but one of their worst seasonals, I think.

Rosé de Gambrinus (2020) Sivarajah

Lovely aroma of fresh raspberries, hints of Pinot Noir grapes, cranberry. Flavour is a touch underwhelming with the fruitiness dropping off and not much funk on offer. It’s still a nice showcase of Lambic Framboise.

Menu Pineau Sivarajah

Assuming this was the 2020 that I had on Zwanze Day at BMT. However, surprisingly more complex and much more elderflower forward. Stone fruit still remains. Not quite as dirty as a fresh Mamouche. It’s beautiful stuff.

Fou' Foune (2020) Sivarajah

Around a year on since I had it on draft. Still very fruit forward, but more of the apricot than the sweet apricot yoghurt. Nice amounts of oak linger too. Not much development on funk. Nice, but one of my least favourite seasonals now.

Friday socialising beer 3: phenolic blueberry, blackberry, mustiness, nice amounts of Cantillon’s funk, earthy, oaky. Less dirty than usual. Very minimal acidity. Amazing stuff. Pretty much neck and neck with Mamouche for their best seasonal.
