Fou’ Foune (2023)

For Zwanze Day yesterday. I love this batch. Really punchy and juicy stonefruit and tons of funk. Little to no acetic acidity.

Nice white wine grape. Seems to be missing a little something and that could be from age. It is like Vigneronne but slightly muted

Cuvée Saint-Gilloise 2021

27 December 2021. Bright with a lot of zesty hop bite and bitterness, and dryness. Lighter medium body, good carbonation, funky with leathery cobwebs, nice complexity.

Lambic Vin Jaune 2023

It’s fine, undercarbonated with a slickness on the backend, a bit of oak and sweet oxidized fortified wine flavors to it. Not my favorite from them but still an interesting tasting experience.

Lambic Vin Jaune / La Vie es Belge

Wine barrel is the star of the show. Distinct fortified wine sweetness balanced nicely with the bright lemony funk and acetic flavors. Good complexity. Great for what it is, though price of admission is high.

Lighter golden yellow body. Grapes are fairly mellow, imparts more of a skin and funk more than anything else. Leather, oak, solid carb and body.

Classic Gueuze (2017)

de Garde 10th. Absolutely glorious. Nice to know that my son's birth year vintage is doing well. Funk, more funk, citrus and lemon, cereal grain, oak, more funk. Just really well rounded lambic that I need to remember to never overlook in the cellar.

Lambic D’Aunis (2022)

de Garde 10th. Truly delicious, jammy grape with a light tannic astringency, bright funk, lemon and wood. One of my favorites today.

50°N-4°E

de Garde 10th. A bit less complex than I recall it in the past to be. Has a heavier sweetness to it, otherwise a similar profile to the already delicious classic geuze.

Aronia Lambic (2019)

A very interesting beer to try. The berry is intense. Smoky and fruity, kind of like a red grape, funky and leathery but the berries are intense. The smokiness, almost gamey flavor is ultimately difficult to wrap my palate around and truly enjoy.

Kriek 100% Lambic Bio (2018)

4 Jan 2018, 375ml. One of my favorite recent bottlings- cherry pie, pie spice, tart cherry skins, funk and a relatively restrained acetic acidity. Cobwebs also in the back. Tannins and cherry skin linger on finish. Great.

Rosé De Gambrinus (2022)

10 Jan 2022, 375ml. Tart berries, very seedy, good funk, fairly acidic- but the acidity does a bit better when it has a chance to decant a bit.

Blåbær Lambik (Blueberry Lambic) (2019)

Been a while since I had this one. A very good berry lambic on its merits, though bilberries are adding more of a tartness of flavor than anything else, fairly reasonable baseline complexity. Classic example of rarity and just enough novelty for the time.

Lambic D'Aunis 2020

03 November 2020. Remarkably similar to 2017, perhaps the 2017 didn't lose any steps at all after 5 years. Bright red grape flesh without any astringent tannins, funk, a bit of oak, nice lemon, mild acetic acidity, good body and carb.

Kriek 100% Lambic Bio (2019)

6 June 2019, 375ml. Tart cherry skin galore. Moderate acetic acidity shivers the parotids some. Good leathery funk, tons of oak on the finish to help smooth out the acidity. Opens up so much as it warms. Medium body and carb. Just great.

Big, big whiskey barrel, oxidation, leather, a bit of vanillin. Kind of overwhelms the lambic hiding underneath. Interesting expression and tones, nevertheless. Medium full bodied, dry finish, lower carb.

Kriek (1994)

Fun tick. Cork well preserved. Tart cherry, dried out a bit with good carb, fairly heavy acetic acidity though would still classify as moderate. Lighter body with a lingering acid bite. Well cellared I’d say.

14 Feb 2022, 750ml. Light cherry skin, mild lemony tartness, good funk. Sweet cherry flesh dances on the palate on the finish. Medium body, good carbonation, nice leather and mild tartness on the finish. Fresh is great with this one, plus lamburgers

8 July 2021, 375ml. Already fairly acetic, but a nice cherry skin and flesh presence. Leathery funk and tannic oak, medium acetic acidity with a nice lingering cherry flesh and tartness. Medium body and brings the parotids in just the same.

14 Dec 2020, 375ml. Juicy fresh raspberry, tart with a nice seedy jamminess on both nose and palate. Mildly complex funky lemon, leather and touch of oak. Classic brewery funk underlies it all. Medium bodied, good carbonation, so approachable and tasty.
